Toyota says it will recall 3.8 million vehicles in the United States to address problems with a removable floor mat that could interfere with the vehicle's accelerator and cause a crash. The company says it will be the largest U.S. recall in its history. Owners could learn about the safety campaign as early as next week.

Toyota and the government warned owners of Toyota and Lexus vehicles about safety problems tied to the removable floor mats. They say the mats could interfere with the vehicle's accelerator and cause a crash.

The recall will affect 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.

Owners should take out the floor mats on the driver's side and not replace them.
Toyota's previously largest U.S. recall was about 900,000 vehicles in 2005 to fix a steering issue.

you may have to turn them in nate when you go to the stealership for the new set of floor mats...I don't know though they may let you keep em...

I would think they would take the old matts and just exchange them for the new 1's...that way toyota doesn't have to worry about law suits from toyota vehicles crashing...:dontknow:

What if you were to say that you bought new floor mats once you heard of the safety risk and the others were destroyed? I believe that would entitle you have your money reimbursed.

I got a set of the TRD carpet mats and the All Weather mats. Never had this problem. Once again leave it to the few people who don't like the hooks on the driver side to have the problem. Then complain to toyota. I have to move the passenger side back to the seat all the time. never the driver side. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Well when I bought my truck I noticed one of the driver side floormat hooks was missing. I thought the previous owner broke it or something so I got a new one for like 2.95 from Toyota. Maybe it never had it in the first place?

Wonder if they'll refund my $2.95?

My service manager said that our phones have been blowing up with customers asking the same thing. He called Toyota because he didn't know, and Toyota said that dealerships should start honoring the recall as early as this weekend...I guess to give time for the dealers to stock up on replacements.

He was also told by Toyota that customers CAN NOT just bring in the floor mat itself, the customer MUST bring in the vehicle with your current floor mats for the dealer to honor it.

For the Canadians, Toyota Canada is also upholding this, but they're saying to NOT replace the mats with anything else. I'm calling my stealership just to verify.

EDIT: In calling the dealership, they said its SOLELY the 2010's that are being affected, and they're not to replace the floor mats of any other Tacoma previous to the 2010's. I'm a safe girl yet again. WOO!
