Anyone disabled TC/VSC and installed LSD on an '09

I was just trying to find out if anyone has found a way to defeat the VSC and TC where it is turned off when you start the truck. Also, has anyone had a mechanical differential installed? I'm not sure if the electronics would fit the diff, or if toyota and the warranty folks would cover anything if you got one installed.

I don't know how those electronic diffs work but as far as the warranty, they won't warranty your differential if it's aftermarket and as long as the problem has nothing to do with the aftermarket part or caused by it then it is warrantied.

what about pullint the fuse.... or install a switch that connects in with the fuse.. so when you turn the switch off it would be like pulling the fuse...

try reading the owners manual.. theres a lot of stuff that can be altered by doing a bunch patterens with switching stuff on and off. like on the fords you can turn off the seat belt buzzer turning the ignition on and off X amount of times, click the seat belt and turn the head lights on and off in a certin patteren....... i think that i remembered reading something about turning off the warning lights on the tacoma when i was looking for the oil reset junk....

The only thing you can customize to the best of my knowledge is the seat belt buzzer which I disabled long ago. I understand they wouldn't warrant the aftermarket differential but my concern is the electronics fighting the differential. The vehicle stability control will brake wheels individually to keep you from fishtailing, and the auto lsd brakes the wheel that is spinning to allow the other to catch up. If you have a mechanical linkage connecting the two rear wheels you are applying power, then the brakes try to grab one rear wheel only I'd be afraid of it locking up the rear wheels or possibly snapping the weakest point in the axle. As far as warranty goes I didn't know if the dealers would install the mechanical lsd from previous years. I just don't want to risk they claiming the mechanical lsd would void the warranty on abs, stability control, traction control, computer, or anything else attached to the system.

One Idea/question I had, which I will duplicate post to APR and or URD is, since the X-1 will not work with the 09 ecu yet, could the X1 be made to leave the E-LSD on/functioning while cancelling out the TC and more importantly VSC functions (the ones that chop engine power even if you have the stock stuff switched "off") That would be awesome, and while not a real LSD, it would save significant coin and warranty issues if need be.
I am really happy with how it all works factory on the street, ESP in the rain...but I have yet to AutoX/track it and it would suck to have the power drop off while trying to simply squirt around some tight 90 degree apex cones in a heavy truck :laugh:. So far in the Twisties it has not been an issue, it is really quite good! However even if the computer ecu piggy back couldn't/doesn't handle it, how about a piggy back for the TC stuff included in the 09+ X-1 package? Duplicate posting now.

I just thought if the X-1 can cancel out the speed limiter through software, it wouldn't be far fetched to look into disabling other computer controlled functions...main ECU or TC,VSC, and not ELSD functions...
not sure how it all works just a big picture/would love to see it as an 09 owner suggestion so I could get an X-1 and URD boosted:top:

The traction control system uses wheel speed sensors and when it sees a difference beyond a point in the wheel speeds it will activate the brakes on the faster wheel and reduce throttle.

What you can do is reduce the difference in wheel speed..

You can install a TrueTrac LSD and that will limit the difference in the rear wheel speeds and the traction control will activate much less often and it will chop the throttle a lot less.

This whole thing is not run by the engine ECU. There is a seperate computer that does all the calculations and runs the brakes. There is a signal sent to the ECU for controlling the throttle. That you might be able to tinker with, but most professional shops will steer away from that because of the liability of tampering with a federally mandated safety feature.

So, because most of this is done BEFORE it gets to the ECU it is not something an X-1 type unit can handle.

How compatible is the truetrac with the 09's? How much modding does the wiring take? I would love real LSD all the time, I just can't afford too much down time etc or want to spend more than say, $1000 to get it hooked up and make all the other systems happy.

Thinking about it, on the Tundra there are two switches that can be activated to shut these systems down. On my 4Runner it shuts off if I switch on the part time 4x4 Low range.

These system are very comon among the trucks. I am sure that if you studied the schematic for the systems of the different vehicles, you might find the wire to intercept with a switch to shut it down.

There is no wiring in the diff at all. It is all done with the brakes.

You can just drop the TrueTrac in there and enjoy it like I did with my 2005.

If I could use the Truetrac and get the brake system manipulated to not cut power, that would be perfect.

I just wanted to put the idea out there in case it could all be done or considered by the developing co's instead of simply making an 09 X1 to fit our ecu plug

I agree that the truck functions beautifully for normal driving but I like having the true lsd to do kick the rear of the truck out for tight u-turns. That way I do not look like a noob doing a 3-point turn. I also had a bit of an issue in the rain trying to tow my race trailer up a hill in the rain. One tire lights up and forward momentum disappears.
