Right now we have conventionally armed inter-continental ballistic missiles that can be launched from silos in the US and hit anything, anywhere, anytime in about 30 minutes or so. I think I would be using those up pretty fast for a short time. Then I doubt the need would arise to use more of them. The message would be loud and clear.
