Sup guys! I sorta fell of the XR planet for a bit. Been in and out with a couple of the locals for a while. But im coming back baby! First off anyone in the htown area up for some road trips on a motorcycle hit me up. I'll be picking up my '81 Yamaha xs650 bobber next Wednesday from Austin. Had the motor rebuilt from a guru for these bikes. First road trip im plannin is on March 28th to new braunsfels for a bike rally. Debating on either day tripping it or heading up early Friday - crashin at the parents land in lavernia then going to the meet up early and heading back after. Those plans are up for debate if someone wants to join. After that im plannin on ridin from Houston to possibly New York then towards Colorado and maybe California then back home. Im plannin on doin that over a 2 - 3 week span. Again up for debate.

After all the road trips are done think I'm gona finally pull the trigger and pull out this lil V6 and stuff a real motor in it and start the long awaited conversion to drift truck or picking up another ride and doing so to it. Probably just blowing smoke for now but a lot depends on if my bro and I open a bar in the next 6 months. Kicker is its in San anotnio.

Since most threads are useless without photos here's a pic of my new toy.

Hell yeah brother! I've riden it before - that seat actually adds a lot of cushion so not so bad. Not that my XR is any better. DJM is rough as is. Looks first comfort second  but yes pot holes would be brutal - do you ride?

Yah I have a Softail. I like the way the hardtails look. I haven't had the pleasure. They really look mean. Your right about the X being a little stiff, they are great until you hit some rough road.

Do you ride often?

Every chance I get. I'm out trucking most of the time. I always squeeze about 300 miles in every time I come home. I've got 20,000 miles on an '09. I don't get to ride as much as I would like. Every Saturday that I'm at home is bike day. My girlfriend doesn't make plans or ask me what I'm doing on Saturday. It's well known I'll be on the bike.

Yeah that's gonna be a rough trip to do on that bike. I'd say plan a trip that'll take you 2 weeks timeframe cause any longer than that and it starts to feel like work. I've done a couple of cross country trips on my bike in two week timeframes and had tons of fun. I'd highly recommend riding out to Colorado and Utah. Check out the threads I've done on those trips i did

Holy crap that is ****in epic! You sir are a bad ass - hands down. I think I may do small get aways every wknd instead of a 2 week stretch since my bike is gonna be alot rougher of a ride. Gona go to Colorado for sure since I have family up there. Im gona crash outside to keep it cheap and personally I prefer the outdoors. Do you have any other trips planned for the future?

i plan on riding out to Big Bend this summer. Have you taken the motorcycle safety course? Make sure you're familiar with the carburetor on that bike if you're going to Colorado. When i rode up Pikes peak, some guy couldn't get his bike started because of the altitude. You can actually coast down the whole way lol

Safety course no. I used to own a gsxr 600 that i stunted. I get the bike back wed so I do have to get familiar with the carbs they are a new set so I will see. Yeah the one downside of getting an old school bike is gota be a lil tech savvy or you will get stranded quick. Hahah - so you always been a bike enthusiasts or did it just sorta happen before your big trip?

Originally I wanted a crotch rocket but after doing the safety course i knew i'd rather ride a cruiser. So i purchased the bike and literally learned how to ride on it in like a 2 weeks period while it broke in. After the first 600 mile checkup I just put my two weeks PTO at work and took off.
