Quick paragraph about whats going on.....

Three years ago I bought my second 05 RR X-Runner. I bought my first in 08 and never looked back. I put +200k miles on it in a time period of 9 years and even though I'm no mechanic I did quite a bit of work on it over the years, air conditioning, 3 clutch's, ring and pinion gears etc. Well at some point something or another dropped down from the drive shaft into my oil pan and i decided instead of spending thousands of dollars on either getting it fixed or buying a new engine i would keep the truck and buy another with less issues.... But i wanted to go fast so naturally i looked for a SC'ed X. Found one and bought it.

Loved the new power loved the whine, the truck ran great.

So my issue now.

On the way home from work 2 months ago I noticed the truck loosing its power. the next day after driving to work and it seeming to get even worse i decided to hook it up to the code reader. got a bunch of evap codes and a MAF sensor code. That same day I pull the entire intake off clean the MAF sensor with the proper MAF cleaner, cleaned the throttle body and washed the intake tubes with soap and water. put everything back on, codes never came back but the truck still ran like shit.

Now my buddy had a $800 tablet, so he hooks it up to the truck and we find out that Bank 1 (cylinders 1,3,5) are running lean. Also a random misfire code p0300. Live data shows cylinder 2 and 4 are misfiring. Cylinder 2 seems to be the issue as its misfiring at a higher rate than 4. So here what we did.

swapped injectors to see if the misfire would carry over it never did. (all injectors pulsing like they should)
fuel pressure check test. right at 41 psi.
swapped coil packs same thing misfire never carried over.
compression check on all cylinders, they all passed.
leak down test, passed.
removed the valve cover, valve train and timing look fine.
replaced all spark plugs. ( i mean why not)
checked voltage going to cylinder 2 coil, has plenty of spark
checked ECM signals and found no issues.

Now my friend and I are both stumped so I decide I'll bring her to the Stealership.

they charge me $130 for a diagnosis and tell me everything I already know. Then tell me they want to do a leak-down test for $875. I tell them I already have and want to speak to the mechanic. Talk to him for about 15 minutes, straight up asshole by the way. The conversation ends after I tell him Yes i indeed removed the supercharger and reinstalled it without replacing gaskets and he tells me they cannot and will not work on my truck due to its TRD supercharger. Apparently they aren't associated with TRD any longer and cannot purchase parts for the supercharger and cannot any longer even re-flash my ECM back to stock to make sure the work they've done has fixed the issue. I tell the man i have a stock engine back at my house but he again refused to work on the truck.

So now I'm fucked, The truck only has 80k miles on it and I'm not ready to give up. But dont know where to go from here. should I remove the Supercharger and send it to get rebuilt; and in that time use parts from my old truck to try and get it back to stock. I know i can bolt the original plenum back on with no issues but can i just plug in an ECM from my old truck to my new one with no issues.

What do you guys think the cause is for my Misfire.

any advice or help you can provide would be much appreciated.

You've done everything I'd ever be able to suggest. As for the ECM swap, it can be done butI believe it needs to be flashed by Toyota Techstream to function in your other truck.

@o0opackersfano0o is a Toyota tech, maybe he can shed a little more light on this for you. Sorry your dealer is an asshat.

Did you purchase the right plugs?
Denso IKH22 or IKH24? ( for SC'd applications )
At the intake manifold, the molded rubber hoses can dry rot and leak.
Have you changed your PCV Valve?
EMS is usually last on the troubleshooting list.
Are any of your brakes "sticking"?
Best of luck!

NHX,

sorry man the ECM is a mystery to me.

If you got the time could you explain a little more about the ECM. Why would it not work exactly. If my old truck is N/A and I'm converting my newer one back to stock why would it need to be reflashed. what does the reflashing do?

Is it because every engine wears differently and it constantly makes small adjustments for a particular engine that wouldn't be the same as another of the same type but has different wear?

If I did swap them would the truck simply not start or run? Or would it be a situation where it starts and runs but i could potentially be damaging the engine even further.

thanks for your time man,

I know i keep typing novels on here.

Went with the IKH22's,

no my brakes are fine, but i think you might have something here with this mysterious Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve.
Thats right i just googled it. Thanks man, gunna at least look in to this.

The first thing I would do is a compression test and make sure the engine is mechanically healthy. If you have some cracked pistons it will do what you described.

after finding out it was misfiring this is one of the first things we did, all of them were within spec. went ahead and did the leakdown just in case and found no issues there. Stumped.

Take the supercharger belt off and drive it. See if it misfires. Will run fine with out boost. Maybe u have a coolant leak? Try pressurizing the coolant system? If you have some ecu questions u can contact justdsm in tacoma world. He can write vins to Ecus and flash them and even tune them. Also when u swap ecus u need to relearn the immobilizer to the ecu.

with misfire codes. If one cylinder is misfiring bad then it sometimes throws the other cylinders off. If ur watching cylinder 2 misfiring live the. That’s the problem.

Thank you so much for the advise,

We are hoping when we remove the supercharger and bring her back to stock she will run normally. As you suggested the vehicle seems to run better without the SC belt. I have a friend that says he can re-seed VIN's for me, should i bring up this immobilizer issue with him as well or is it something that he will know/understand. What I Really need is someone to re-tune my ECM after i get my S/C re-built. All the toyota dealerships around me either cannot do it anymore or are refusing to do it.

Just remembered something that happened to me that exhibited the same symptoms...
I bought my truck at auction, a million and a half codes were coming up, MK I URD Supercharger was half-assed installed... I erased half the codes by tracing it all back to the Intercooler Pump not being powered so I was just pumping even hotter air into the motor giving me all kinds PO300 type codes. Probably why it sat on the auction block for almost a year... been runnin' right ever since.
( Except for the tranny locking up last week, but that's a story for another time )

Hello.
I click on "Reply", scroll to the very end of the message I'm replying to, then type in my message. I apologize for the inconvenience. The messages don't look scrambled on my end. I did accidentally "Reply" to my own reply on this thread, though.

I’m not trying to scold, no worries bud. Was just curious. When you reply just make sure your new text is after the “[/QUOTE]” code

Very interesting. Ever since I bought my truck I've always noticed that the Intercooler pump will just kick on. Truck's been sitting for 4 hours without the key inserted and I'll come outside to smoke a cig and hear the pump kick on. It will run for about 2 minutes and shut off. I myself, not knowing shit about the system, always thought it a bit strange but hey maybe its supposed to do that. My friend who's helping me with all of this shit is now telling me he noticed it as well and it should not be doing that. I wonder if its jacked up and has never operated correctly.
