You may want to PM me. I have had several. While the 64 1/2 is cool from a collection point of view, it has some problems with being a driver. For one, it has a generator, not an alternator. If you are lucking enough to find one with p/s, which is rare, this set-up is unique and was changed in 65, so the parts are scarce.

well she really likes the 64 65. It doesnt really matter to me cuz it wont be mine lol. The p/s was one of the reasons she didnt get one a few years ago. What years did you own? She did say she would be happy with any model year so if there is anything you want to recommend feel free. I thought maybe we should start with a Monza:dontknow:

Well I have owned both Mustangs & a V-8 Monza.

I have owned two (2) '66 & one (1) '65.

All early Mustangs are prone to a rotting cowl. Take a gallon of water with you when you are buying the starter car. Pour the water down the cowl (vent in front of the windshield) If the cowl is leaking the water ends up on the from carpet, maybe both sides. This is an expensive fix.

64 1/2 to 66 at best have an underdash air unit. 67 was the first year to have a true in dash air. The underdash units work well, but there is no vent on the door side. So in the heat of summer, you tend to want to lean towards the center of the car for the cold air.

If the car is going to be a driver, I would pick 67 or 68. If you like the 69-70 body style better, that would also be a good choice.

Remember, no headrest, no breakaway steering column, until 67. Side marker lights did not become a necessity until 68.

P/S was available on all years. Front Discs are only available on GT models until 67. I can rant alot here. Do not buy a 6 cyl model, the brakes are much smaller than the v-8 models. I can give you a list of things to think about.

There are a ton of parts avialabe for the 64 1/2-68 models. Little less for thr 69~70 models and a lot less for thr 71~73 models.

The black fastback listed above is a 64 1/2 ~ 66, but not a 67. I would have to see more of the car to tell exactly what year, since the diferences from a 64 1/2 to 66 are slim.

V-8 Monzas were available from GM for a few years. Fast, but hard to keep in one piece.

This is my wife's 66 Mustang.

Here is are some pics of my 65 Fastback. This was driver from 90~96. Sorry for the crappy pics, these are from the archive.

These are pics from a '77 Monza Spyder. I bought it new in '77. They came with 305 V-8. I had a 350 on an engine stand and a little too much time on my hands.

Thanks Donnie.

Yes I am curious about that too Matt. Are you window shopping or do you have a car in mind?

I need to make a correction. The Monza was a 78 not a 77.

Nice list there Coupe! Im just window shopping at the moment, once she moves back to town and get settled in at the new job then we'll actually pick something out. It def. helps to know what to look for though, I'll have to bring whatever we get by so you can approve it before hand lol. Its most likely going to be a mustang though because she has always wanted one.....she test drove a bblue one and ever since shes been saying" we can just add p/s right?" so shed love to have one with p/s so she can actually drive around. Ill have to show her some of yours and see what she thinks :) Thanks for the info so far!

P/S can be added. There are two types. Factory and rack & pinion. About $1600 for either. If the car is V-8.

I have used the 65/66 Mustang as a driver, in the past. It is pretty easy to live with. The 67/68 is a little more comfortable.
