well first off would it even fit on a 20x8.5 rim ? I was looking at a 20-25 offset, has anyone had this in the front? would it rub? and yes i know its bigger than stock (wider and taller, but I want that) Thanks.

275/40-20 is TOO TALL .....

28.7" vs. stock the 27".....

Your truck will be nearly 1" higher.....

The tire height is 6% more than stock......above 3% you may be asking for trouble.....the extra spinning mass due to the excessive diameter of the wheel/tire will require the brakes to work harder to stop the vehicle.....we already know that the stock braking system ain't exactly stellar to begin with......premature brake component wear or failure could occur

I also believe that the taller wheel/tire will be detrimental the overall "handling performance" of the vehicle.

Well I have the TRD brakes up front, and I was thinking about maybe putting 255/40/20 on the front, and the 275/40/20 on the rear. And the thing is I don't really want my truck to sit any lower and I wanted the fender well to be filled in more, so with this set, even if I decided to lower it (it would almost take me back to stock height, which is ideal for me). What do you guys think? Also, is the speedo on the front tires or the rear?

I run 275/40R20 on front and 315/35R20 on the rear.

no braking or handling problems at all, look fantastic, and fill up those huge wheel wells nicely.

FYI, wheels are 20x8.5 and 20x10, both with 35mm offset.

Neither. There's a speedo gear in the transmission. As previously mentioned if you go to big with the tires it could have an adverse effect on braking performance (i.e larger rotating mass, ABS via misread from each individual wheel speed sensor)

the best you can do to stay close to OD (overall diameter) is 245/40/20 that brings you at 27.7", but if your wheels are wider, you might get a stretch, subsequently bringing your OD down less then that .7 of the 27.7" OD. Hence, my suggestions is if you wanna run meatier tire, stick to the stock tire size at 255. But if you wanna upgrade to 40 series, you can run 255/40/20, with that your OD will be at 28" which is only 1" higher then stock at 27". This is still better then running 22" wheel with over 2" of additional height to your truck. Even with 22" wheels, some people run 255 or 265/35/22. With this its brings the OD diameter to a whooping 29" or so, about 2" more height and Alot of people with 22" wheel get away with it easily. Breaking problem should not be an issue considering its only 1" difference in OD, people with 22" get away with it easily. Your ODO will be off, but over so slightly, not even noticeable. It will clear the fender gap wheel well real nicely if you can accomadate it with the drop you are using.

as I said, I run 275/40R20 and 315/35R20, on 20x8.5 and 20x10 35mm offset

these tires are Identical in diameter (about 1.5 inc bigger than stock), and DO NOT rub, affect braking performance or ABS operation.

I do not think a 20 or 25mm offset would work.
