Question.....

Who is gonna pay to have it fixed when you break it at the Drag Strip?

:hmmmm2:

Or total it. I have seen a few disasters with street cars at the strip. Typically no insurance coverage.

Most people don't think about it, but your life insurance usually does not cover accidents that happen at racing events. Something for guys with kids to think about.

Nope. wait a year. there is now way you have been driving long enough to instinctively know what to do when something goes wrong. unless you have been through training, then go for it.

Maybe explain to them that its a safer more controlled environment, show them that you are gonna be responsible on the street, and that you will take responsibility for anything that happens on the track.

Make it a family event, there are tons of family's around here (we are a bunch of rednecks though) that go to the track together, as opposed to something lame like "board game night."

Oh and I dont think age should be a deciding factor, it should be based on the maturity of the person in question i.e. YOU

There are plenty of "adults" that dont belong at the track

Who's paying for the insurance on this truck ? Who's paying for the gas in the truck ? Who's paying for the truck itself ? If the parents / guardians have any say in any of the above, then they have a right to know how their money is being used.

Regardless of all that, you are still considered a "minor" by state and Federal law. Until that status changes, you're still subject to their authority.

they think that once i get a taste of speed, going down the strip, that may transfer into how i drive every day. ex: timing street lights, launching off the line, stuff like that

Ha..you can't say you already don't do that??....it's just legal now...

:ahhhhh:The ins. will not pay for a wreck, but on track racing will not get you a ticket. they do have a say on the street.

:rolleyez: Bottom line who the truck belongs to has control over it!

as long as you can convince them that you will be at a legal and sanctioned track, then of course.

I think a lot of parents, being that they are old and wise, seem to forget that what they see in movies isn't what it seems. IM sure they believe that you'll somehow grow up to be some drug dealer driving old school muscle cars and getting mixed in with the FBI.

But seriously, if they've never been to a track or know that there is a proper way to run your vehicle, then its time that you show them. They will also find out that it will be a good night/day out.

You guys can eat dinner out there! Burgers and Hot-dogs for everyone!!!

yea i think taking them out there would be a big help.
they arent big on cars, or in this case trucks.
they want me to take a drag racing class or something, but
1. cant find any that use bone stock cars
2. they are over like 1500$

yes, with the proper training. I rather have him/she do it at the strip than on the street.

See if they will buy you a streetbike instead. Then after they hear that they will gladly let you run the truck.

Im sorry, but this man has a very VALID point as well....Now if said 17 year old paid for all of that, then Id still have to go with my initial intent being that if they were properly trained sure. Me personally I like speed but I am not a dragracer (not in the X anyway)
