you could keep it in sixth at any speed over 30mph and save a ton of gas i drove to u of h 2 days both ways 30 min freeway drive with my low fuel light on

yes and no..... yes keeping the RPMS lower saves gas, but too low and your motor struggles to to run.. using more gas... higher RPM doesnt always mean bad gas milage.. it can also mean less load on the motor making it easier to run.. think of it like this.. if the RPMs are too low it could have similar effects as towing a trailer. its harder for the truck to push itself with not enough power..

As for the 09 with bad gas mileage...
how many miles are on your truck? if your over 10,000 just take it back to the dealer and have them take a look at it. BUT they will probably frown at the cats and blame it on that...

--just for those who dont know how to properly do it.....
how do you get your average MPG... i do it by the amount of gas put in to the tank not the total tank amount example i take that amount put in... 15 gal pumped then i take the milage driven using a trip OD that is reset at every fill up so ill say i drove 260...
so you take 260(miles) divide by 15 (gals) and you would get 17.333 as the answer for your MPG's

im in the bal park of 16-19mpgs depending on how i drive.. most the time it is about 17.5

dam 55mph! thats a little too slow for me.
i run 93 and i actually see an increase in mileage and better response from my motor. i would get about 260-270 a tank with reg and with premium i now get 290-300.

does anyone know ways to improve gas mileage? my recent avg MPG is around 12 and i dont run it hard. anyone got any tips?

I know this all too well. Doesn't matter whether I drive like my grandmother or a pissed off teenager, highway or city, 87 89 or 91 octane, I get 14-15 mpg tops!!! No difference between when it was stock or when I put in URD coldair and exaust. Does the URD chip they have improve the mpg? Must be those damn Canadian trucks then if you guys aren't having problems lol. :canada:

I have had my 08 since May and with 23 fill ups, my avg mpg is 18 on the nose. Thats is both city and hwy driving with trips to Jax from Meridian at least once a month. I use 93 gas and drive about 80-85 for the most part on those trips. I'll get about 350 miles on a tank with 2 gallons to spare.

I have had my XR since August 1, and have driven 4,000 miles already, lol. I picked it up in Seattle, and drove over 1,000 miles back, and got over 400 miles per tank, every tank. My lowest MPG was 21.
I still get a consistent 20-22 mpg straight highway on the 85 & 85.5 octance I run.

In the city I usually get around 17mpg.

I start with a full tank, reset the odometer, run until the fuel light comes on, fill back to full, and divide miles driven, by gallons added. Works geat.

i get 18 mpg complete city.

First I used quicktrip premium. I think its 91 here. Ive tried otheres and i dont get as good of milage, I did a test with my camaro, litterally filled the tank up and drove till the light came on down te high way and filled up with another companys. with shell i lost alot. if i use shell in my x ill loose 2 miles to the gallon because of all the crap they put in it.

Im not going to argue about using premium is a waste but i find it to improve miloage in the long run. most modern PCMs will play with the timing until the knock sensors tell it to stop. this alows the extra octane to beused. Like i said i dont wish to argue this.

When i drive rpms will stay between 1300 and 2500 but the goal is not to put the enigne under a load. If you want to do this get a scan tool and whatch your calculated load value.

Now you look like your getting way too low. if i beat the **** outta my truck i still get 16 . first thing i would do is look at your fuel trims. that will give you a general idea. if any of the trims are more than plus or minus 5 id starr looking for problems.

check your tire pressure,

finally get a skinney girlfriend.
