Gonna drop it off Tuesday and have the trans looked at. Have the nice high rpm grind- had it since new, but its getting worse. And also the noisy TOB. I had the trans out last summer and know for a fact that the input shaft is all worn out and even a brand new bearing was sloppy on there and noisy as hell. So if they say they are just going to replace the bearing that isn't going to happen.
Only have 3 weeks and about 1200 miles left on warranty LOL. Kind of waited to the last minute hoping they would announce some kind of fix or TSB, but that doesn't appear to be the case. We will see what they have to say next week. They have always been good to me in the past. Hopefully they treat me right and I can end up with a new transmission.
Wish me luck guys. :top:

Just make sure you don't have any melted rubber in the rear fender wells... Obviously taking off as many performance mods as you can will only help you but I don't think its necessary. Hopefully your service guy is straight up and open minded. Good luck man.

they already know what I got. No sense in taking anything off. If they say the trans is bad because of the performance stuff, I plan on getting some documentation together to show that its a fairly common issue with these transmissions. :rolleyez:.

I was talking to a service manager down here about how my input shaft was worn down. Said if I talked to toyota service line, or what ever it is, that they should be willing to ship out a new input shaft to my toyota, and then they would replace it under warranty.

Don't know if that helps any

Mark, will they fix the t.o under warranty? I have the extended warranty but it does not cover the trans...weird.

Well I would figure that if they are going to do the input shaft, then the TO might go along with it. :dontknow:

I had the same problem with the noisy Release bearing. Replace it once after it got bad but then when back to making noise. I then replace my clutch with a performace one and a new oem release bearing and have had no issues. You might what to check your pressure plate they seem to weaken after a while.

Good Luck!
They had no problem swapping out my trans.
Only turned on me when I blamed them for bending the pressure plate and causing the clutch to nuke
You should be fine, I think they are starting to realize the issue here

pressure plate and throwout bearing only have maybe 10k miles. Broke my stage 4 clutch last summer so when I replaced that I replaced the bearing as well. The bearing made noise immediately after the install. Which isn't too surprising with how worn out the input shaft was.

I've been getting grind in third gear? And this is my third Trans. The first one wouldn't come out of reverse. Is this going to be more of a problem? Should I just install the 5 speed? Crazy Trans!

my auto trans has been giving me trouble as well..... no grinding or anything but sometimes it doesnt shift up..... ill drive for like a mile and a half at 65 mph @3200rpm and just stay there. But when i put it in 4th and back into drive in shifts up. It also doesnt want to shift down into 1st sometimes.... even at WOT. will the extended warranty cover this you think? I know x's have sticks but i figured you might know something about it....:dontknow:

Got the truck back from the dealership. They said they reproduced the 3rd and 5th gear grind. And also agreed that the rattling noise is the TOB.
They said that because of the performance mods they would need to tear down and inspect the tranny before doing any kind of warranty claim. They said they are definitely not denying my powertrain warranty just because of the performance mods. But I would have to first agree to the cost of the teardown. And most likely a rep would have to come out before anything would be covered under warranty. Seems a little more straight forward and truthful than what some guys are getting told.

My question is do you think I should go ahead and agree to the tear down costs and hope I can get enough info collected to get the trans warrantied. Or not even deal with the hassle. Either way a replacement trans or the trans I have now is getting pulled when APR is done with the T56 swap.
I know a few of you guys have been through the same or similar situation. How did you go about it? I also know that even more people have the grinding issue and the TOB rattle and have been stuck with it. Which is totally shitty.
Right now I am leaning towards getting as much documentation from others with the same issue and pushing for warranty. Sounds like lately Toyota has been more willing to help us out. Hell if they fix my truck they should fix anyone's.

So tell me what you guys think.
Don't we have a thread around here where everyone was listing all their trans issues and had some dealer paperwork showing that toyota covered it under warranty?

Once you get all your documentation, you should submit a thread and have the mods turn it into a "sticky" for all other members who need tranny work done. :top:

Good luck!

Hope u have better luck then me and i'm TRD boosted! As soon as they found out I had a nontoyota clutch in there they told me to take a hike! Then they said well u have bigger injectors, smaller pulley, headers all of which need to dissappear for me to get a new trans:thumpdown: it's just too much damn work to change all my parts back to stock(minus blower), mine as well get a low mileage tranny from a junk yard for me.

I wonder if the rules have changed now that I'm into my extended warranty?

Anyway good luck:top:

they know I have an aftermarket clutch in mine. They also know I take it to the track considering I forgot to wash my numbers off the window.
Like i said they are pretty straight forward and have been good to me. I think I can pull the warranty thing, it's just how much of a hassle will it be for me?
