I honestly don't know where to even begin, so I will just let it all get out there. Bear with me whether it be a long or a short read please. I guess I'll start with the thank you before the short story. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you for me, my wife Jessica and my son Maddox for everything you guys have done, sent, wishes, thoughts, prayers and love. I have never thought I would have such really good friends that could help me out and do something so selfless for me and my family. I've been having it rough for a few months and struggling behind the scenes making it work the best way I know how. I've been doing electrical work for roughly 8 years and well I've spent all of those years building up my payscale and learning what I can. Well lately apparently with the bp crisis and just plain greed, all of the employers down here just want to get their's and don't really care about their workers and leave them to fend for themselves. I started out 8 years ago making 10 dollars an hour, and worked all the way up to 22.50 an hour, only to be dropped down to 13.00 an hour and expected to do the same work of a 20.00 dollar an hour man. The owners exact words were if I didn't like the pay, I can leave and he will just hire guys for that cost with absolutely no experience.... I about died when he said that to me, because here I thought people wanted to make money and have trustworthy guys on their payroll so they can make money and pay good wages....Apparently that's not the case and well the workforce down here is just in the crapper. I'm doing the best I can with what I got and I swear after selling tools, watches, shoes, clothes....none of that even remotely compares to the gesture you guys have done for me and my family....

I honestly could not find the words last night to post up in a thread I was so taken back. Again I just want to say thank you for all your blessings, because even though this is a truck enthusiast forum, apparently it's also a good place for friends who help others in their time of need.

Thank you guys. It means alot. I cannot even begin to explain how much it meant/means.

Donny

As the economy takes a dive, you are going to see more of this. Jobs will dwindle and the ones available may not pay as much money as they once did. The other thing that usually goes is benefits (vacation, health insurance, etc.)

The unfortunate thing is, your boss is right. There will be a line of people ready to take your spot.

I experienced this first hand in the 80s. It took me about 10 years to recover.

I am not trying to bring you down, but just trying to prepare you (and others) for the economic changes ahead.

Recovery is one thing, but trying to pay mechanics 13 hr is absolute bs and nothing more than an attempt to line his pockets :frown: I know there will be a line of people who will beg for my job and fortunately for me they can have it....I've got apps all over the place and the first chance I get for more money will be my rocketship to freedom. And once he mentions the pay, he will be left with nothing but illegal immigrants because nobody in their right mind would take that kind of crap pay unless they were hell bent on survival which unfortunately for me is why I am in this predicament myself.

Dam donny I'm very sorry u are going through such a hard time! I hope things get better for u very soon! I've had a few jobs where it was very hard work and only got paid min wage, we have a lot of illegals around here so they are able to do it! It sucks! Not a lot of good jobs here either, new plant opening up, pay starts more than I top out at after six yrs! Maybe u get lucky real soon and something new will pop up!

I lost my job 8 months ago due to company closure. I struggled living on ei and being self employed. Since I began my millwright apprenticeship back in 2004 I was layed off 5 times and was sick working for small companies. Mentioned to my my wife I would only continue working as millwright if I landed job in large company or planned to go back to school. Patiently I landed a job @ Arcelor Miteal Dofasco Steel one of the largest steel companies in the world. Finally hard work has payed off!!!

No worried Donny I'm sure u will find something u deserve.

Donny, while I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you in person (yet) I feel like I know you man. You're a good guy that got a bad break. But you know what? That's when your friends and family need to lift you up. Those of us that have been fortunate enough to weather this economic storm (so far) like myself, would be just as greedy as those that put the United States in this predicament if we tucked our money away and didn't help a friend in need.

When we had our second child, we were hurting for money and I was seriously panicked about the whole deal. But the XRU family stepped in (on their own) and donated $5 and $10 dollars here and there (some people as much as $100) and with that money we were able to purchase a crib and changing table for our daughter. I'll never forget it - and all those that made it happen. I literally cried when the crib arrived b/c of what IT MEANT and WHO made it happen. Those are things you never forget. I never knew an automotive website could do that --- bring people together like that, but I'm so gracious that it has.

All of you guys rock.

Keep your head up brother.
