I'm looking into getting xm radio for the wife car my car and the X. For her car its easy just buy the kit install and done for me not so easy I want to be able to have xm in the car and truck but in the truck I have the pioneer 110bt which needs the add on tuner however if i buy that I can't move it between the truck and car and if I buy a car it kit well I just don't like the idea of having that nice pioneer unit in there only to have to be controlling my radio though the xm unit plus I really don't like the look when people mount them in the cars. And I dont want to pay extra just to have it in the truck and car separably.

So my real question is this XM offers the online addon for 1.99 a month which let you listen to your subscription on the computer and any smart phone. What I want to know is if it works like Pandora meaning that I can plug my phone in to the pioneer and be able to listen to the XM through the trucks speakers and control it with the pioneer just like the ipod or pandora functions.

If you do that won't you be relying on your phones cell signal to listen to the xm? It might not be as good as getting the actual xm equipment. Your phone might be "buffering" alot due to weak and strong signals plus eat up alot of Internet usage if you don't have unlimited.

Yes, it works...

I have a Pioneer system in each of my trucks.

I pluged the iPhone into the cable and it plays Pandora and XM just fine. I was still getting my WiFi.

The newer Pioneer I have in my Tundra has a special app for the iPhone that you have to launch to play Pandora on that one.

Thanks G that's what I was hoping to hear tis alot cheaper just to pay the $1.99 a month then $99 for a pioneer tuner add on plus $8.99 month for the service. As far as internet gos the iphone come with a mandatory unlimited plan has been that way since they came out with the first one.

O one more Question for ya G does the pioneer control the XM through the iphone like changing stations etc. or do you have to use the phone itself to change stations and use the jump feature for weather?

Do it using the phone.

I will bet you using the cellular to get your XM will get sketchy as you drive around.

The way I do it is through XM and their mini tuner card. The card is like like an sd card but about 1/4" thick. I have a kenwood HU that accepts the card and controls the XM. I can then pop the card out and take it to my other turck (with the same setup) or put it in another tuner that accepts the card

Obviously there is a bunch of hardware cost involved, but only one subscription and I can take it pretty much anywhere. Also Im not sure they are still this hardware anymore, but it can be found on ebay

(and im using the 09-up factory installed sat. antenna)

this is an example of the hardware

heres a pic of my setup, i also have a nice stereo but settled for this to listen to xm because of the price for the tuner. (i have hidden plugin, and used FM modulator for max signal)... if it were me i would do the xm tuner in the vehicle that is driven most, and use the 1.99 thing for my secondary vehicle. or if you want the clean look in the truck and want to utilize the stereo just hide the tuner in your truck

^Instead of an FM modulator, could you just run to the aux in of the HU?
