Hi everyone. Been a long time. Made some cosmetic changes but I WANT MORE POWER :blurock: I'm getting the itch again and it's time to dump some more money I think.

Is anyone running the the MAP-ECU3 yet? I've read the descriptions of the things it does but I honestly have no idea what it says. Can anyone put the gains/benefits the MAP-ECU3 gives in layman's terms? Also, if someone could explain the major differences between the APR X-1 and the MAP-ECU3, that would be great.

Thanks!

It's gonna be able to pull a stronger tune out of the factory parts and yes you will see gains but not a lot I.e. the x-1 produces 20 tq and 30 HP from stock wth your from ithaca?

I dont know if this helps but i asked gadget earlier today what the map-ecu3 would do for a stock xrunner. He said ......
Gadget said:
On a stock truck, the same as the URD MAF Cal for 1/3 the price....

U may not see the gains from a MAPECU3 that u would from an X-1 but u should at least see the same gains from a maf cal if not more. Now if ur never gonna be boosted I'd say just get a maf cal and call it a day but if u are thinking of boost in the future get the MAPECU3 instead. At least then u won't be limited to trd injectors and just a 2.85" pulley upgrade. Youll be able to run the bigger injectors and a 7th injector, all of this of course if it was a trd blower u were to get. Not sure what G has planned to use in his blower kits yet but the MAPECU3 will also work for his setup I'm sure.

Now the difference between the MAPECU3 and X-1 are:
X-1 uses new exhaust cam gears to help fill the combustion chamber up with as much A/F mixture as possible as well as scavenging the exhaust gasses out of the cylinder better. The X-1 also allows u to raise the rev limiter thx to the exh cam gears. I'm sure there may be a few other things the X-1 can do that the MAPECU3 can't do but I can't think of them now. Both have launch control, both erase the speed governor, both allow for alternative fuels(E85, race gas and maybe methanol?).

I'm sure if u go to apr's website u can at least see a side by side comparison between the X-1 and MAPECU2....doubt they have the MAPECU3 listed yet for comparison.

Would it be better to get a urd maf cal when N/A, and then get an apr x-1 later after getting on boost?

the mapecu3 will allow you to advance timing and adjust you afr

the maf cal only does fuel

so your going to see more hp gains with the mapecu3

but it's also a big price difference, so its up to you to decide

Thanks everyone. I should have included the mods I have.

TRD CAI, TRD Cat back, DTLTH, and MAF Sensor Cal.

So basically, most are in agreement that since I have the MAF sensor Cal. I shouldn't bother with a MAP-ECU3? Or with these mods would a MAP-ECU3 produce significant gains?

I have toyed with the idea of boosting but to be honest I don't ever think I'll get around to it. No speed governor would be nice  I pretty much only run premium anyway.

Another question, when I got my MAF Sen. Cal. I had it tuned for my CAI and cat back. Would it be worth having it retuned for the headers or a waste of money? I don't have a PC, so I can't run the software but gadget lives right down the road anyway.

I can't tell u if you'd be able to fel the difference because I've never read about it or have seen it first hand. I can tell u that "usually" when performance goes up, MPG's go down.
If your not gonna get the MAPECU3 then I would think u would want to gain all the performance u can outta the Maf cal. I could be wrong but I believe that since u don't have front cats that you'd be able to have the tune leaned out a bit because u won't have to worry about burning the cats up.(or it could be the other way around and richen the tune up?) I'm not really sure, ur best bet is to ask Gadget or someone else that's good with tuning of the MAF cal

the resell on a maf cal is pretty good.... i think its like $200 at urd right now. get that then if you go boosted you should be able to flip the maf cal for a decent price (100-150)... if you have it for a few years did you get your moneys worth?

when i first got my truck i bought a maf cal.. (cat-back only) after the install I can not really tell where the added power is.. after a month of driving or so when i would hit the gas i could tell where the power was added.. it wont make your butt dyno go off.. to me it was a little more...

think of the gains more like adding a CAI or cat back... you will notice very little. but this mod can be tuned to enhance all mods added and maximize hp gains not just add some once its installed..

for the money its a great mod
