It's not practical. There is not enough airflow to the scoop. Search the threads and see for yourself.

Rent a wind tunnel and see how it works.

Hood scoop is a low pressure area, lots of people have them open more to just let heat out from the engine. Get the URD TCAI for, IMO, the best intake on the market.

There was one person that was fabing up an additional tube that ran from the scoop to a TRD Cai, but it was a one off that didn't last long.

A lot of ppl just open it up to help get some more cool air in the engine bay, but thats about it.

Here's what a guy with an 4X4 Tacoma did to get a ram air affect for his Volant cold air intake, here's the pic

Leave it alone. If you plan on sitting in straffic and not moving, you might be a few degrees cooler in the engine bay. Then if it rains or you drive the truck(anywhere) the engine bay will get filthy fast. There is no real benefit.

There is if boosting for extended lengths. If you can get it to allow the air to go down the back side of the motor, where it is hottest. A lot easier with the VIS Carbon fiber hood though. Seeing as how those back two cylinders are most prone to knock, the added cold air flow is worth it back there.

In the last pic, right behind the scoop opening, there are two ovular holes. The two trapoziodial holes behind that are new cut outs. There used to be no openings there. So those back two openings as well as the two little holes at the very end of the hood, farthest away from the entry opening, are new.

U will get more flow it u space the rear of the hood up off the hinges. But not much. The front is too boxy to inhibit air through the scoop.

That being said. Under hood...
Remove the 5 or so 10mm nuts and the scoop insert will come out. drill the rivits holding the plastic insert behind the scoop in. 3 total I think. Remove the plastic peice and install new rivits to hold the factory metal screen in. Bolt back on and your done. 3/16 rivits I think. Maybe 1/4

I keep my open. It doesn't make any difference on how dirty the motor gets when it is off or on. All of the air comes in through the front of the truck, through the radiator area, a little more area doesn't make a difference. Probably helps when the truck is sitting still, the heat can rise out of the hood scoop.

My motor stays clean, even with the hood scoop open. I clean it about every six months. Even if I shut the hood scoop, I would still need to clean it in about six months. It is kind of like if you had the garage door wide open, and someone was trying to put sealer around the light bulb area because air might come in through that area. The radiator area is wide open and that is where the air comes in at.

Or just use zipties so that if u do want to put the plastic insert back in to close off the scoop u won't need to drill rivets out again. U can't see the zipties when their installed anyway and they hold everything together just fine. That's how I have mine so I can reinstall the plastic insert come winter time.
