I guess I'll tell you even though i know where your QA1s did NOT come from. :eviltongue:

When installing these, it depends on which ones you have. Based on what you are hauling around all the time catching waves and what-not:

If they are the older ones then you should start off on 5 or 6. This MIGHT be a little too high at first since you're running blocks, but it's a good start.

If you have the new and improved TS703 that we sell now, then start off on 8. This should be the sweet spot on the new ones with all of your surf gear. (Keep in mind that these have 18 valving setting vice the 12 of the older model)

As you drive around and get use to how they react to whatever you're hauling, not hauling, or racing of some kind. You will find where you like the ride to be and remember what settings you like for each. The adjustment is easy to get to, even with the drop and can adjust them fairly quickly when you need to.

Hope that helps. You're going to wonder why you waited so long to get them to begin with as must of us have already learned. :top:

Alway remember never to go past the "max" setting on either of the QA1s as it could damage the valves. When in doubt of where settin is on before turning the dial, always turn it completely counter-clockwise to set them back to 1 THEN crank them up to where you wanted them.

With the composites, you'll notice that you can have them set lower and still have a better ride and also be able to set them higher for "track" conditions and not feel like you are going to bounce out of the truck.

For the most part, it all depends on the truck and the driver and the weight and the road conditions and the.......... you get the idea.

The "initial" settings I mentioned to Brian are good starting points for installation with the composites as well. Youy will have more of a fudge factor because of how the composites react in comparison to stock springs with blocks.

The instructions for the new shocks (TS703) actually have a pretty good "go-by" for helping you decide on a starting point to have your QA1s set depending on what you are doing.

2-8 clicks for nice ride and handling (I say to start at 8 just because of the handling nature of these trucks)
8-12 clicks for firm ride and improved handling
13+ clicks for more aggressive handling

Stock height mine were on 6 all the time. I liked the stiffer ride because I drove on the hwy every day and towed a boat a lot, so on 6 I never had to touch them.

I run mine at nine clicks with CL to keep from bottoming out. Tried six through eight already but need more dampening. Got the older twelve clicks single adjustable model.

ever since i installed my qa1s, I've been running on the 3rd click. It rides really smooth and I'm running a 4.5''/4.75'' drop. I just recently bought a tonneau cover and it lowered the rears about half inch more so I'm thinking about going a bit higher maybe 6-8 and see what it does. Anyone know if adjusting to a higher setting would lift the rear back up?

That's not how it work, you can turn it to max setting and it won't change the ride height. It's a dampener, to aborb dips & bumps where driving, not ride height adjuster.

Just chop a 1/2" off your rear blocks and that should put you back to where they were before.

ahh i see, good to know! btw, do you know if they make air shocks for our tacoma because I met a guy at a tire shop who owns a 2011 silverado single cab slammed and he said he just adds air to his rear shocks if he wants to lift it for his bike and releases the air to slam it more.. very interesting

We have a simple s hock setup in the back, you just have to do some measuring and cross reference to the existing air shock.
