trd reflash nightmare

I go to take my truck in to get the ecu reflashed for the trd s/c. They break the news that any body that knows how to drive, hate To hear. They have to do the gas pedal ecu reflash, before the trd s/c reflash.

For all of you that forgot, that makes so that if I hit the gas and brake at same time, the throttle slams shut, and Nothing happens. So no more heal toe down shifts, no more brake stands. I'm pissed, but I'm also not a complete dumb ass, and I know that the stop light switch, on my brake pedal, go to the ecu, before my it goes to my actuall tail lights.

Now I have two options, when I'm at the track, I can just remove the brake switch plug and have no brake lights, but at least still have normal throttle opperation. Option 2, wire in my own stop light circuit, that bypasses the ecu. Then I will at least get brake lights, and in theory, the ecu wont know the difference. It will just think I never, ever, ever, hit the brakes. Lol. Downside, good by cruise control. I'm gonna lose, the ability to hit the brakes, to disable my cruise control. The ecu will.just see the slowing down, as me climbing a hill, or something, and actually INCREASE THROTTLE... So I will get a run away Toyota.

Lol. The irony...try to fix an issue, That makes an even bigger one for any one that cares about racing their Toyota vehicles. All because one CHP officer, cannot drive an automatic. Un-****ing-beliveable... This mod day just got a little more interesting.

Hopefully, it doesn't use the pressure switch in the ABS unit, to also monitor brake opperation for the "runaway Toyota reflash", if it does. Then I have to disable my ABS too...

/endrant. Sorry, I needed to do something, while waiting for my truck to get finished up....hahah

I read that if you have the pedal reflash that the TRD reflash won't work....maybe I'm mistaken. And I asked my dealer a while back and they said I do NOT have to have the pedal reflash if I don't want it and I can still get the TRD reflash if I wanted without the pedal one (when I was about to go boosted). I think they are full of sh!t

I thought the same thing. The last time we took the truck in (ended up being it's 30,000 mile what-not) they mentioned about the pedal cutting recall and the ECU "heal-toe" re-flash. I asked if they fixed the issue with not being compatible with the supercharger flash and he said it wasn't fixed yet... we declined. Didn't want to say that we're at the track all the time and need to heal-toe all over the place. Figure they may frown when it came to warranty work later. Hopefully we're both wrong and you don't have issues with the re-flashes not working together later.

I know for a fact the Manual reflash is not compatable with the S/C as they just cut my pedel but did not reflash the ECU. Besides, I know how to push in my clutch if my engine goes bonkers. I will let it rev until it blows, then toyota has to fix it.

I am about 90% certain that the automatic reflash does not work either. I also recall a guy on TW who had an automatic get the ECU reflash, then got a S/C and had to buy a completly new ECU because they are not backward flashable which is essentially what the S/C flash is. I would call TRD and double check before I let them do it as you might be out a lot of money if you have to buy a new ECU.

I would refuse the brake override reflash. I'm almost 100% certain the S/C flash can be done without it. Also just as an FYI the brake override only kicks in at 25mph+, so burnouts are still possible, but the heel-toe wouldn't be (assuming it's done at speeds in excess of 25mph). I know there are a lot of guys out there who are S/C and don't have the override recall done.

Actually it uses the pressure switch. At least it did on the camrys and corollas that we tested it on after we reflashed them when I was a Toyota tech. It didnt actually cut the throttle till a certain pressure is applied. Idk I never did the recall to my truck. The gas pedals looked hacked as shit afterwards.

U do realize that the gas/brake over ride only works when going over 25mph right? So u still can do brake stands, just not heel toe above 25mph.

Well I'm glad that I don't have to worry about that shit cause my truck will never see a stealership again unless I trade it in. They will NEVER touch my truck as long as I'm alive!!

The clutch disengages the cruise control too. Took me weeks to figure out why my CC wouldn't engage when I was resting my foot on the clutch, barely depressing it.

I'm not sure but I think the override only works on full throttle and full brake.

The dealership did mine and I still can heel and toe going 60+ mph:dontknow: maybe they didn't do it right.

Trd reflash is on, they swore up.and down that they can't skip the 90l reflash. Gadget confirmed it

They did not modify the gas pedal. So far, I Can drive around with my brake switch plug un done, it wont activate. :)

I do second gear burnouts, so 25mph cut out is an issue.

I'm going To attempt the brake switch rewire tomorrow, so I at least have brake lights.

Oh, and about to do my first 1/4 mile pass. ;)

When I had mine reflashed It was before all that crap....but when I took it in the service guy told me not to have the brake reflash done otherwise it will mess up my TRD reflash. So IDK if you can have both n e way.

My brake trick worked 100%.

Was able to do my second gear burnout to warm the rubber up.

Best run...13.37@105 with a 1.998 60'

I need to figure out permanent fix still, so I still has brake lights, and a non functioning 90l. For now, I'm having a blast at Tex fest, to much fun, not enough time for research and testing.
