thought i would throw this up on the board as it might be of interest to some.

anyone know what interior parts may be swappable from the new 2012 tacoma's to previous model years? we may want to make a confirmed list for future reference. i'm sure alot of parts such as consoles and door panels are swappable but i would assume most people would want to add things like the new steering wheel, gauge cluster, dash and nav system.

i really hope the gauge back plates can be swapped. I like the black on white numbers!! oh, as well as how the off-the-lot backlit color is blue instead of orange, and center dash console is black instead of gray. More than common mods on the 2011-2005's.

there is a much easier solution by hitting up blackcatcustoms.com they can do any gauge face you want!!! I am willing to bet the pinkslip to my truck that toyota won;t be selling just the gauge face, and you will have to buy the entire cluster for $225(i think) and if you swap clusters your milage will be back to zero as its stored within the cluster... so long story short hit up the guys at blackcat they are awesome!!

As long as the wiring is all the same from 09 up i don't why the parts wouldn't be interchangeable. I know a few pre 09 guys have swapped to the newer interrior but it was a bit of work and modifying

Your going to need the new dash harness for the nav and steering wheel controls. I'd have to compare wiring diagrams and I could make a harness. The lame part Toyota doesn't sell the connectors. If it was like VW I could order all the OEM connectors and wire ends.

When I worked for Toyota I was able to order them with the vehicle mileage programmed in.

that sucks, connectors would definately be nice, i wonder how the 3rd party vendors like scosche get them, must be some agreement. if all else fails you could pick some up from them and fab something up, otherwise find some standard connectors with enough pins. personally i wouldn't care about the sirius features since i could do most stuff over a data connection with a smartphone. as long as i had pandora, GPS, and bluetooth i think i'd be set. of course steering wheel controls would be nice too.

Once I get my 2012, hopefully a week or so, I will see what it will take to do the nav swap. People at toyota ssay you have to order the nav when the truck is being built. But I'm sure in the near future they will sell a harness

just got back from the 2011 SEMA show in vegas and came across several tacoma's with 2012 front ends and 05-11 interiors. so it would certainly seem that the exterior components are easily swappable especially since i'd assume their conforming to the standard business model to keep costs low.

I had my parts guy check cluster of a 2010 with the carbon fiber cluster and it was like $1800

Anyone know if the white part in the gauges is lit by the LED backlighting or an idigo light? I havent taken the cluster apart of the 2012 yet. I know the layout of the indicators have changed as well

not sure what the idigo lighting would be but i'd assume the cluster would be LED like all the previous model years, i've been looking to swap my center dash trim but there isn't anything on the market yet...guess i'll have to wait for the 3rd party vendors or for some poor sucker to wreck his 2012

One major difference I noticed on my truck, the rear speakers are no longer in the access doors. They are on the roof facing down over the headrest. Im looking to also remove the factory amp/sub on the back wall and replace it with an amp for 2 10's in the unused space on the access doors I have now. I need a fiberglass expert for this mod because I never used it before

it probably would be but i didn't invest over $10k into my truck to have a dealer tell me they will give me a trade in for $12k. i plan on keeping my truck for a very long time and i enjoy making it my own
