I traded my 2006 SWB XR for a new 2012 VW Golf TDI yesterday :frown: :ahhhhh::argh:
She served me well for 6 years, but with gas prices at $5.30/gal and expecting to hit close to $6/gal it was time to get a more economical commuter vehicle
Someone in the Lower Mainland got a good ride.

But at least I still have my wife's Nisaan 350Z Roadster to play around in :top:

Gas should not be more than $2 a gal in North America. The price of fuel is being kept artificially high and not by the oil companies.

People (not me) should buy more hybrid and electric cars to drive down the gas prices :crinklehair:

This is true. This is why everything important is expensive. Tires for example. No where near 300 or 400 dollars in parts and labor goes into making a single tire these days. They're that expensive because you either pay that much, or you don't drive. Same thing with gas.

I'd love to have one of the new vw tdi's. Get some pics up when you can.

I would cut back on anything but my XR. I'm sure the VW is nice though.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys.
I was feeling pretty bummed out today, especially when I had to go back to the dealer and re-sign a form. I saw her sitting in the used car lot, and it felt like I lost a part of me, like a kidney or something. The driveway looks bare now with just the little Golf sitting there.

As for fuel costs, Canada has the Alberta oil sands which should make our gas prices one of the lowest in the world. But that's what happens in a Global economy, products sell at a global market price, and residents of the producing country end up paying the same price. It really sux.

I spent a couple of hours tonight reading the owners manual, and this thing has some pretty cool features. I'm starting to warm up to this VW.

This thing will go 625 miles om 12 gallons of diesel = 52mpg.
And it has 236ft-lbs of torque at 1750 - 2500 RPM - it pulls just like my XR did at low RPM.
The engine is dead quiet, no smell or black smoke thanks to the commom rail injection system.
I got the DSG 6 speed auto - shifts in 4/100ths of a second!
I'll post a few pics once the weather improves this weekend.

I think the pain is slowly going away....
