that's going to take some extensive modding. the back wall of the cab is only one single sheet of crap metal to start, so you'll have to find a way around the support beam that extends across the back. also finding a good seal for it will be a bitch and a half. i'm sure there's more too.

just my .02

side note: not trying to be a dick, i always wanted a rear roll down window. those tundra mofo's get all the good stuff :/

i dont feel you were being a dick.

so ive been reading that some 05 tacos come with a solid rear window. dose anyone know if that window will fit into the x runner just like the slider? if it will then i can call a junkyard and get one shipped here. then i can see what i can do about the modding.

ok so the solid rear window costs 300. thats the best price ive found. i paid 250 plus 50 for shipping. the local yards here wanted 500+ for the glass. yikes. it was absurd, one yard in portland said they could do 650 but thats a really special pice of glass so they cant let it go for anything less. i called 6 junk yards and the best deal came from midwest trannmission in AZ. i got a 3.4 v6 firebird engine from there with 95k miles for 950 shipped. they arent always the cheapest but they do really quick service and there no bull shit with them. not yet anyway.

soooooo.... when the window get here ill have my brother (mechanical engineer at osu) look at it with me and we will see if we can get something done. we were talking about it last night and i think we are going to do an angled track and hinges at the base of the window. so the window will come down at a slight angle. we just have to fab all the pieces and get a window motor. ill keep you all posted.

I know it can be done. I am excited to see it work, I am just worried it is going to take a ton of work, but hopefully I am wrong. Glad someone has the time and balls to try this.

sounds like a good project. does that new rear glass you got have a defroster in it. be sweet if it did.

no defroster but its freakin sick looking. my plan as of now is to get a track for the window from a tundra. then heat mold it to fit the taco. then have the window slide between the back seat and back of the cab. it wil have a bottom gasket thats angled in to make a seal when its closed. now i just need to get a cheap motor/regulator strongenough to push it and then ill tear into the truck and see what all ill have to do.
