My X has HID's and it keeps burning up bulbs. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the headlights turning on whenever I lock/unlock the truck. Does anyone know of a way to unhook that so they won't come on when I lock/unlock it anymore. It does have the "Remote Keyless Entry Upgrade Security System"

HID bulbs are supposed to last a vehicle's lifetime. While it doesn't seem like a bad idea to not have them come on for lock/unlock... I doubt that's it. what HID kit do you have?

I'm not sure what the brand of the kit was. It had them when I got the truck. I've replaced 3 bulbs in 2 years. It has the same brand kit for the fog lights and I haven't had to change any of those. I run the fog lights more than I do the headlights. I just replaced the entire headlight setup with a kit from HIDnation. I'm hoping the new kit solves the problems, but didn't want to risk burning out more of these expensive bulbs. I've heard that its not good for the HID's to be turned on for short periods of time repeatedly, but not sure if there's any truth to that.

Sounds like they are wired wrong. If they're turning on/off with the lock, it sounds like they are wired with the DTRL circuit and not the main headlight circuit. :dontknow:

Agreed. Check your wires and see if the lights come on when your dtrl or parking lights only are on.

The truck had the Luminous Solutions hi/lo kit when it was sold. The all time fog light mod used the cheater wire in the fusebox method. Not sure if something was changed but I ran the kit for over a year with no problem.

It still has the fog light mod, and no DTRL. Both the original and HIDnation kits are plug and play. The headlights do not come on with just the park lights. It does have the upgraded factory alarm that they call the "Remote Keyless Entry Upgrade Security System." The pamphlet that explains all those features says that when the truck is locked or unlocked the headlights will come on for 20 seconds. It mentions how to change all the settings for the system, but doesn't give an option to disable the headlight portion.

Might have to swing by the dealer to have them reprogram your system...

That sucks. There's gotta be a way to deactivate that. Most new cars even have a way to do it yourself. The problem is that since it's a factory "upgrade" system it probably has very little if any adjustments. And even if it can be changed, the dealership will probably want a few hundred dollars to plug into the truck and press a few keys. Factory "premium" security and audio systems are usually only good for making stuff a major pain in the ass.

And yes, that's probably what keeps making your headlights go out. It's really hard on hid bulbs to come on and off alot in a short period of time. Worst case scenario, buy a kit from Ddmtuning and 1 or 2 extra sets of bulbs. Whenever one goes out, put your extra set in and send the busted ones back. They'll send you new ones cause they're lifetime warranty. Then when the others go out, swap em and get a new set again. Lol

@BSP06XRU: Thanks for the links.

I've almost got this figured out. The upgraded security system has a module under the steering wheel with a bunch of wires hooked up. There's a blue wire (go figure) t-ed in that you have to unhook to disable the headlights. But if you just unhook it you lose the "warn away" feature of the system. i tried hooking it in to the parking lights to make them come on instead of the headlights. When I did this I got the "warn away" feature back, but the park lights don't come on. I'm going to do some more staring at wiring diagrams and see if i can figure it out a different place to hook it in to make the park lights come on. If not, i'll just leave it hooked up where it is now since I still get all the features of the alarm and the headlights don't come on anymore. Hopefully this will save my bulbs

Steve is some kind of search wizard around here. :top: I don't think I would have managed to find those threads for you.
Glad you're making some progress on this thing. Hopefully you can get it how you want and save your bulbs.
