I know I'm reading the truck is governed at 124mph...but the fourth month of owning my truck, I tried racing my buddy in his gti on the freeway. I topped out the speedometer, so I don't know my exact number, but the gti was only pulling away very slowly with his speedo reading 135mph...

Im not trying to say my truck isn't governed, nor that xrunners in general aren't governed, but that wouldve been a 11mph difference if I was only going 124mph...no way the gti wouldve been pulling away that slowly...

How accurate are most car's speedo's at high speeds? I know on sport bikes kids were claiming to be hitting in the 180's and when they got a GPS they were surprised to see a much lower number.

To be fair, you can't really compare a cars speedo to a bike speedo. The bike speedo can be off a lot if the tires get worn.

I know a lot of things can play into account on a bike. Most of the time's it's cause kids changed out their sprockets and would drop a tooth in the front and add a few in the back. I just wasn't sure how accurate they were in the cars at 100mph+

I had a 600RR and I want to say it came with dunlop tires. I swapped them out with michelin pilot powers, and the speedo was off. You really should attempt to use RPM as the speedo in your head. I forget how to calculate but it can be done and it's more reliable because the RPM's don't lie!

sure you can use a gps...but remember its a satillite signal...you can lose that signal often if your going to go fast at time's, for it to keep up with you...i have seen it with mine!...some times its not going to keep up if you loose that signal only once that signal comes back! Just a thought to all that use a gps for a speedo!!!!

10mph difference on the highway is very little difference so ya if he was claiming 135mph then u were doing at the least 10mph slower probably 15 if u weren't bouncing off the limiter

Larger diameter tires or larger wheel tire combo will show slower speeds on the speedometer. Thus allowing you to actually go faster than the factory speed governor. Wheel size calculator usually shows the speed difference. So that can be used as a reference.

Also, when I had the X-1, I still wasn't able to go faster than the factory limiter. That was really annoying.

Wow. That can be way off then. Time to upgrade to an aftermarket speedo.

Ya plenty of times I've data logged knowing I had the speedo pegged at 120mph and the data log showed only 114mph the one time. Other then that I'd say my speedo is very close even with have the needle off so many times. I pass a speed sign on the way to work and at 25mph mine is dead on, there's another at 40mph and mines dead on......as soon as u double that speed all bets are off

Mark why wouldn't the X-1 allow u to pass the speed governor? Ur a 6spd so that's not it.....was it tire size related since u use to have a bro truck lol?

Interesting thread, I am so tired of my speed limiter, the speed limit on my truck is at 170kmh (105mph) -_-
So I assume that your ECU guys is same as mine? Or should it be different since I have a different gearbox...hmm... I will have to search for violet wire with white stripes then xD I'm gonna do a dyno pull to see if it affects the VVT-I thing or not! Hopefully next week or on Thursday.

hope you didn't just read the how to and skipped the rest. I got excited to, till I saw Gadget talking about bearing wear and other things.

that guy knows his shit and if he says the person he got the info from knows his shit, I am not touching that wire mod with a ten foot pole lol
