Has anyone ever unbolted the y pipe and ran it off the header....? I know it will be stupid loud but im in the process of upgrading and was wondering if it would be ok to run with it like that for awhile

I am running a muffler delete and it isn't very loud but when i add the urd or doug thorely y pipe i am assuming that i will need a cat back system. With Doug thorely y pipe and Magnaflow muffler it was just loud enough so i can still here the music audibly.

I should be more specific, over the summer I replace the gaskets and just for fun I started it up on just the dtlt headers and it literally was vibrating my chest at idle

I might have to run it off of the stock manifold until I get my y pipe.

No y pipe means two of yours sensors won't be able to be in an exhaust stream. Your ecu won't like that.

Are the cats on the y pipe before or after the sensors?

After. The secondary cats on the y pipe are not monitored by the ECM. Just the primary cats off the stock exhaust manifolds.

The O2 sensors, which read the front cats, are located in the y-pipe though. Take out the Y-pipe and they cannot read the cats. Don't have an O2 SIM which replaces the sensors completely, and your ecu will not be happy.

For this reason, I say no. Why would you not have your stock Y pipe?

I was under the impression it only pulls information from the front sensors which is why when you run a y pipe you can use your factory sensors and not run a code and only need to run sims on the front when you buy headers

How much sound would I add if I cut the cats out the y pipe?

You never run o2 sims on your front sensors. Only the rear ones. Hence the name, rear O2 sensor simulators lol

Torspd is saying that if there is no y pipe installed at all, there is nowhere to put your rear O2 sensors which will give you a check engine light. If there was an O2 sim installed though, no check engine light.

As touchy as these motors are I would be afraid of burning a valve. Running it lean, something like that.
