Just wondering I might sell my dd civic and pondering the thought of getting an older 4 cylinder pickup as my dd... Love and plan to keep the truck I just hate loading my 700lb 4 wheeler in the bed and driving 2 hrs to ride being lowered 2in in the rear..

Here is what I have now.... 91 civic hatch... 287000 mile still running strong.... 45mpg... $30 insurance... Paid $500 and worth every penny.. Its tough to walk away from a car that costs about $90 a month to drive for gas and insurance...

Thinking of a truck 96 or newer OBDII or 1989 and older.. $2000 range can get mpg close to 30mpg and haul a 700lb 4wheeler.... Purely a throw down ride

First trucks to mind are.. Ranger and s10.... They are everywhere and probably can be had for cheap... And I think the mpg is near 27..

I know there has to be a truck out there that can fit my needs.... What do y'all suggest or think...

I have considered putting the truck back to stock and getting a sports car BUT the truck is paid off..

Those Nissan frontiers aren't bad I don't think they have a 4cyl some of them I remember they made a 4cyl. 4x4 5spd. Maybe that will help!

I had a 97 Nissan hardbody and absolutely loved it and still miss that truck today! I paid 1000 for it with 160k miles and sold it with 17 for 2k!

Although mine had a 3/4 drop

Thanks the old nissans were something that crossed my mind... I have not looked at them but I do know they hold a special place for the airbaggers

.

A 4x4 4cyl would be ideal

Just don't get a ranger

I personally had a ranger for a company truck and my own truck. I beat the hell out of them and try still ran. But the 5 speed trans in the company one was powerless in 5th gear. Couldn't even maintain 70mph I just ran it in 4th every where

had a 82 pick up with a 22R engine single cab and that thing was so awesome! loved driving it and it was my dads before so he had it in mint condition, hated to sell it and watch it drive off but up to this date 4 years later i have seen in more than 5 times on the street and it looks like its running like a champ still. only problem is that they arent the most comfortable trucks out there but its deff a good truck i highly reccommend it

I had a 94 with a 22RE...great truck, until a semi ran a red light and killed it in 2008. Unfortunately it wasn't an OBD II vehicle, so I would also look at the first gen Tacomas. They came with a more powerful base 4-banger than the old reliable 22RE.

It would be very tough to find any 4x4 tacoma within his $2000 budget. They hold their value like crazy. Lots of 1st gen tacomas are still going for over 10k

This, tried looking for one before I got the Silverado. Anything with 4x4 will have a higher price tag but for a cheap price may consider one without?

my first truck was a '94 toyo pickup 4 banger, MPG's were great, had good go to it and was a very reliable truck, only thing is, it was tiny (being 6'2 weighing about 280lbs at the time).

you can find late 80's toyo's around here for 2k everywhere and those things will last forever. Hell if you manage to find a diesel, it will survive being on top of a skyscraper thats being demolished.
