There are several people here who are or were "car guys" before "truck guys", How did you guys keep the romance alive with your X-Runner?
I got mine October 10th 2011 a few months after selling my 1994 BMW 540I, But before that I had a 03 TL Type-S, 2 90-91 Integra's that were moderately modified, a Porsche 944 and a beater Ford Explorer...
As it stands, I am very tired of my X-Runner and thinking back to before I got it I did hear predictions from my friends that I would get tired of it since I have not been known to ever give a truck a second glance.
My 1994 BMW 540I stock with only 18x8/18x.9.5 wheels handled a bit better than the X-Runner, Felt faster and got the same gas mileage and that wasn't just my driving too... It kept up in the mountains with the previous "norcal crew".
My X-Runner doesn't seem to do anything extremely well in stock form aside from reliability, It does everything alright... It does more things than a lot of cars can do but they usually excell at 1 thing where the X-Runner doesn't excell at anything but covers more things.
Handling is alright, Brakes suck, Power is alright, ride comfort sucks, steering feed back is alright (being generous), technology is non existent, road noise is alright, build quality is alright, materials are alright, Gas mileage sucks etc...
But she is pretty, I keep her looking good from cleaning every individual part under the hood to shampooing the seats and floor mats every other month. I get compliments a few times a week on it and questions about the body kit and always asked "is it fast".... It's been extremely reliable, I got it with a tick under 40K miles and it now has 100K miles and have only changed the spark plugs, oil every 6.5K miles (royal purple oil+RP filter) and a set of tires... Original clutch, TOB does make a squeek when it's cold, Brakes are going to be upgraded soon (better pads, SS lines, probably slotted rotors for bling [Only because I'm stuck with her until earliest this summer and the currents have began to squeel]), Tires will be replaced again soon and a speaker is giving me that blown rattle noise.
It's been weighing on my mind for a few months now, and I decided when it's paid off ($6K more to go) I will trade it in for something more suitable for me like an M3, M5, Genesis Coupe, 370Z, STI, Evo etc...
I use the back seats more than I use the bed... I miss refinement, I miss sitting low, I miss being able to make U turns, I miss driving in the rain without breaking a sweat...
How does or did everyone manage to still love these things?
