What do you have for a shifter and shift knob?

Have no idea why it would make a noise that is gear specific, but you may want to check the dust shield that covers the tail of the transmission. It is just pressed into place and if it gets a whack it can rub on the propeller shaft and have a rubbing/hissing noise that can drive you nuts until you figure it out.

See if that could be it. If it is just shift it back into place so it does not rub anymore.

well i figured out my own problem lol the noise was wind noise. the 2 rear clips that held the rubber shifter boot under the one you can see were broken not holding in the sheet metal so when the shifter was pulled back it would let air sneak in the hole. 2 new clips and screws along with the oversized urd release bearing i put in for the squeak today and all my noises are gone lol for now. thanks for the input gadget the dust shield was secure too
