Gadget, Coupe and I have come up with a new adapter for the MGW shifter. This way you can bolt up any of the Hurst shifter arms, to the MGW shifter. Should be finished in about a week. Then I can test fit. The hope being that now there is a variety of shifter arm choices, as well as center console fitment.

Cool. Send me pictures when you can.

So are there any draw backs? Anything that should be considered? Any trade offs, downsides? I love my little truck but the tranny sucks. I realize trade in value might go down, although I wouldn't mention it. If I could get into the next gear I may never trade it in.

Personally, it increases the value to me. As it consists of all repairable parts. Easily.

It would to me too. Toyota won't see it that way. So your happy with the kit. Shifts good, no road noise, vibrations, pedal feel is good?

Far happier and superior than the OEM transmission. This setup is how it should have come.

Are there any other shifters being used asides from MGW?

For proper fitment with the OEM center console and leather boot, not really. The MGW get it closest to the proper fit. Fhe my build thread for the latest addition to the MGW shifter. :top:

I don't like the idea of cutting into the stock console.

You do not need to cut up your console. You may have to open the hole in the floor a little bit because the shifter on the T56 is a little further back than the stock one.

I had to cut mine because I purchased a Hurst shifter so that I could have the custom MGW shifter adapter made. The sacrifices I make for the good of the community. ;)

It definitely won't be necessary with a MGW and the Hurst shifter arm adapter. :top:

Reposting here.

I believe the old Toyota R-series 5-speed transmission, fitted on the HiLux and Fortuner 1GR V6, as well as the 2TR Tacoma, Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series Turbo Diesel V8, the GCC-spec LC100 with the 4.7L V8 (came in manual for several years), and the old LC with the 1FZ 4.5L I6 engine, is really a strong and superior transmission that can handle any amount of power and torque. Having it fitted on the mighty Turbo Diesel V8 gives it enough credit.

So although Fortuner and HiLux owners may think they are unfortunate to have a five speed instead of the Prado and FJ Cruiser's six speed manual, they are actually lucky because that transmission is bullet proof.

Maybe you guys may consider swapping an R series instead of the T56. That way you will not have to deal with custom shafts or custom bell housings, and you can fit them to 4WD models as well, if you get the F-series of this transmission.

We also can provide complete differentials with LSD or lockers installed ready to drop into your axle housing.
