Hey what's up xr family. Just wanted to say I'm new to the xr underground. But right now I'm running into some problems with my 06 xr. If you guys could help me out. The problem is when I start my truck up every morning or just if my truck is cold I get this clacking sound coming from my engine bay but only last about 5-10 secs then it goes away I start it up in neutral without stepping on the clutch. I had called a shop told them about this problem and they said it's a clutch bearing. Could I get your guys opinion on this or if you guys know the problem I could really use your help please. Thanks

The only bearing that's in the transmission is a throw out bearing. I haven't heard of it making a clanking sound only the dreaded squeak. How many miles? Also how are you able to start your truck without stepping on the clutch? Mine will not start without pressing it. Try starting the truck with your foot on the clutch and see if that changes it. A video of the sound would be helpful as well. And welcome to the underground:top:

Wow, no bearings in the transmission? That's interesting. Technically the throw out bearing is outside of the trans just like the flywheel.

I don't think you have transmission issues...what kind of toter oil and filter are you using?

By your description it sounds more like engine knock....post a video, without hearing it, it's impossible to diagnose. Does the sound go away with the clutch pedal depressed?

I meant bell housing. A bearing inside the transmission itself would make a totally different sound than a clunk. There's no pilot bearing just a throwout in the bell housing. That I know because my trans is currently sitting on the floor of my garage for third time in 118k lol.

This sounds like a lack of oil at start up. I the oil is too thick or if the oil filter lacks an anti drain valve this could be the result. If there were clearance issues in the lower end the clacking noise would not go away after a few seconds.

I would put my money towards to thick of a weight oil. My ranger used to make the same sound when I moved to Oregon from So cal. Changed to a thinner weight and started using an additive and prob went away.

It's definitely clutch related cause mine does it too. Mine has done it since I bought it and everytime I took it in for service they told me it was normal.... I know it's not normal so I would just storm off in rage. The sound doesn't seem to be hurting anything it just makes the noise then goes away after a couple seconds. It's sounds like the pressure plate slapping around on something. I push my clutch in and start my truck it doesn't do it so that's what I have been doing to make it not do it

Aren't you due for a new clutch and pressure plate anyway? ;) doesn't sound normal. I would of been taking another X in with me to show that it's not normal. Don't see how a loose pressure plate would make that sound since when you foot is off the clutch the pressure plate is pressed into the friction disc. My question is how are you guys able to start your trucks without your foot on the clutch in the first place?:hmmmm2:

The switch was probably either bypassed at some point or is bad.

Mine did that also... for those of you that have the superchargers... it sounds like rotor clacking.
The noise sounded normal to me... I also had the light weight flywheel so extra noise was expected
