I've never seen one of those fail before. I mean anything is possible but I didn't expect to see that

Me either. I tested it next to another one I had( separate Tacoma engine , wish I could rob lol) and it seems the tensioner. Just won't hold any oil pressure . the dealer should have my parts in tomorrow and I will be reassembling .

Truck is back together . Did first test drive tonight . Little over 20 miles . Smoothest idle I've had since owning truck . Much more responsive. All live data reading well and no pending codes present . So far so good !!!!
This weekends goal is to swap transmission and rear end with the redline fluids .

Do I have the same failure? See my video:

I started to get P0012 code recently, almost every driving time.

Hard to say . My original video was corrected by gadget informing me the passenger bank tensioner actually facing down. So that's why it has no play on that side unless you press from the bottom . In my case . It wasnt holding the tension even under pressure and I had jumped 1 tooth . Can you put it on top dead center and show us our timing marks ?

P0012 is actually related to the camshaft timing though . Could be bad vvt . I replaced mine while I was in there but I never had a timing code . I was getting random multiple cylinder misfires just in that bank . Bcuz the exhaust valves weren't quite closing all the way (1 tooth )

Yes, noticed it (passenger side is upside down). It felt similar, so I think they are good to go.

And P0012 is also for passenger side = Bank 1. The OCV and filter for it are clean and the valve works ok and ohms are ok. Maybe something related to Unichip tune I have/had. Now changing to UCON.

The tensioners always will push on the slack side of the chain. With the way the engine rotates, the slack side on the passenger side is down. On the driver's it is up.

Same way on belts. Watched a "super legend" in the industry be baffelled why his S2000 supercharger kit lost boost at high RPM. He had his tensioner on the pull side of the belt because that is how Honda had it. Honda did that specifically to cause slip at high RPM for power and unload the accessories. Won't work when you really need to drive something.
