I got my X new in '11 and had every idea in the world. Enter a house, wife and kid. Now here I am just getting around to it. What was initially a basic refresh (radio, ss, hls, tls and grilles) has spiraled out of control. The only things I've installed so far have been the front bbk and swaybars. Sitting in my garage is the Magnuson sc, rear bbk, Tundra m/c and brake booster, CSF radiator, factory Tacoma oil cooler, Optima battery and Hotchkis billet aluminum sway bar brackets. Is there anything you guys recommend I address when I install the sc? Should I replace pulley bearings? Install under drive pulleys? Try to talk Coupe into building another deep sump pan? I don't have a lot of free time so I'd like to knock out as much stuff at once as possible. I'd also like to know what intake and exhaust you boosted guys are running. I'm a Cali guy and I know nothing will be CARB legal so I'd need a set-up that wouldn't set off the CEL. I already understand I'd have to swap it every two years. Sorry for being so random and thanks in advance for all the help.

When u install super charger u should installed urd fuel pump upgrade. And install boost and air fuel ratio gauge to monitor everything. Xru is kinda dead these days. The performance section on tacoworld is always active. Tons of info there.

CA guy here too. Along with home, wife, kids too.... Fully aware of CARB and smog checks. I understand the slippery slope of modding and this is what i did or would do.

Consider installing the CSF radiator, oil cooler and optima battery at the same time since its in that general area. But it is easier to install the blower with the radiator out of the way because the crank pulley will need to come off. You just have more space in front to work with.

And since the front is apart, you'll want to consider replacing your water pump while you're at it. Underdrive pulleys are optional but if there was ever a time to do it...now would be the time.

The rear bbk and M/C and booster should be another day/project.

I suggest the TRD Gen1 intake. Easier to pass the visual smog check with it versus Volant, AirRaid, URD, etc...

Doug Thorley sells shorty headers that are CARB legal.

I have all those mods and more. I don't set off CELs nor worry too much about bi-annual smog checks.

What type of tuning were you planning for the SC?

I'm not OP but i hope he goes TRD supercharger calibration from Toyota or the OVT software.

I wouldn't recommend ucon due to the risk of possible CELs appearing. But this is from what i read.

And BullyDog? We'll let sleeping dogs lie....

If you're not going super small pulley just stick with the TRD reflash from the dealer. DO NOT use the BullyDog flash. I've heard nothing but bad things related to that. As for Ucon and OVT, I know the source behind the Ucon tuning and trust that way more than that of OVT. OVT may be fine but I don't know or trust their work.

It's nice to see the newbies searching and posting here. Let's not chase them away. You don't re-grow the community through old blood.

You only get CEL with the URD UCON if you run Accell coils. The UCON is the best way to go.

My X has had plenty of track days with the stock oil Pan
the Coupe oil pan spacer is plenty good for someone wanting a little insurance, the deep oil pan is overkill unless you cut doughnuts pinned at redline. in my opinion.
For your exhaust I suggest Long tube headers into a single converter with v band clamps for easy removal and installation of a straight pipe (for track use) 02 sims needed for this.
A e- fan and the URD Walbro fuel pump upgrade and the URD throw out bearing upgrade and a LSD are all must haves.

I agree with everything except the e-fan. Seen way too many fail. No real gains

I could not disagree more. Maybe a cheap fan assembly is a problem for some folks but my Flex a light was over 400.00 and has been problem free and makes my A/c work much better and keeps my super charger after cooler super effective. It’s not just about getting rid of the clutch fan.

The Flex A Light fan is the one that I saw fail, in person, twice......guess you've had better luck. Agree to disagree.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm disappointed to hear about the Bullydog controller. The only way to get the CARB approval is by ordering the Magnuson S/C with the Bullydog controller included. Guess I'll have to check into the TRD reflash and consider the wasted controller the cost of business when living in California.

Did you already buy the Bullydog unit? The TRD reflash isn’t CARB?

When the trd blower was paired with the trd SC tune from the dealer.....it was CARB legal.

But now that its been discontinued, people need to buy the Maggy blower for the Tacoma along with the BD tuner software to be CARB legal.

If they buy the Maggy blower w/o the BD tuner, then it isnt CARB legal.

I would have no qualms buying the Maggy blower w/o Bullydog and then either running the OVT software or flashing with the dealerships TRD SC calibration. I would also be quite confident that I would pass visual/sniff smog tests every two years.

I lean towards OVT instead of UCON due to simplicity and less components.

OVT, on their handheld, was just a 5min flash of the ECU to get their "tunes".

UCON requires the installation of an aftermarket cam gear, ecu box etc..

E-fan? I'm not a fan of them either. I have a e-fan on one of my classic cars just purely for appearance. Less clutter up front. But I've seen my share of defective flex-a-lite and spal fans, etc. I dont use one on my truck.

Yes, the UCON is a more in-depth install, but it is DEFINITELY worth it.
If you're looking for cooler intake temps, I would suggest the Stage 3 Snow Kit.
Upgrade your fuel pump for sure, I can't vouch for any other tuning but G's!

Try to talk Coupe into building another deep sump pan?
Yes, please do. I was in on a deal when Coupe pulled the plug. I'd buy one for sure.

I'm in Cali too. For this reason, I went the TRD supercharger route as it's 50 state legal. Tuning is done through UCON.
