Which do you prefer for dyno?

Going to do a dyno this saturday,which do you prefer to get the best results. 3rd or 4th?

I think on the stock trans 4th works best. Should be able to run out the RPM without hitting the rev limiter.

What type of dyno are you going to run on?

Mustang dyno 1750 SE

Unless you are going to tune a stand alone EMS, do not bother with a Mustang.

If you are looking for a number to compare to other trucks, find a DynoJet dyno.

I always thought Dyno pulls should be done in the gear that places a 1:1 ratio between engine and transmission for the most accurate results and consistency. That is 5th is our trucks and that would be a crazy long pull.

Thats what i keep hearing is 5th but 5th is just crazy long lol

5th will hit the speed limiter..

4th is your best bet

I have done both 4th and 5th on the XR and there is no difference on a DynoJet. 4th is not exceed the speed limiter so it is the best gear.

On the autos I use 3rd.

With auto my friend redlantern had better results with 4th

You canot get the full RPM sweep in 4ht on an auto. The speed limiter will stop the run to early.

My friend has uconn so if speed governor isn't a problem 4th gear will net you better results

Neither one. It should be done in 5th gear, which is the 1:1 ratio gear. Any other gear will produce inaccurate results.
