As a mechanic can you see from a diagnostic if someone over rev'd their motor? Will it throw a code that can be erased? If it can be proven... will they still warranty engine work?

Unless it messes something up then no. There has to be a code to have freeze frame data. But just because there is no check engine light doesn't mean that there is no code. Certain codes require that the problem last for a certain amount of time to turn the light on. But the computer can still have a code in the "history" or show it as "pending"

Yeah, I am sure they can find out anything they want to with their scan tool. You would have to wipe the PCM to remove everything

No we can't. You pull the battery for a few minutes the ECM starts fresh. The new laptop scan tools are legit but we can't see every little thing the car has ever done. It is constantly recording and deleting info but not very much. If your car sets a check engine light we can see what was happening 3 seconds before it set the code, 3 seconds after and everything in between. That's it. But in that time frame we can see everything and I mean everything.

Correction!

Unless it's a hard code then the only way to get rid of it is for the computer to run it's checks and see that everything is ok.

New tundras were setting some hard codes for vvti problems and technical told us it was from machining debris that weren't cleaned out well enough and it was clogging oil passages....

I meant if there was a code or a code in KAM. Same thing as in a wreck basically. You can view everything from knowing if their windows were going up and down to if the lights were on or off

A "wreck" is different. When an event occurs,Toyota engineers can access that information(on some toyota's).Dealers don't have that equipment. It's totally different from the Techstream.

Yea we don't do anything like that. A wreck is completely different
