Ok so as many of you have slowly started to find out I have been building my truck pretty much in the background and not a lot of people know much about it but a few people. sweet....cant wait to see how this turns out. its like christmas with that box full of goodies. i'll be watching this thread. gl
Glad to see your project taking form, I hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be. It still wont beat a stock 11 mustang haha (J/K), but seriously... Why didn't you go for a front mount? Custom head gasket?... Get the cylinders ringed and have head gaskets cut out of copper?
The cat is officially out of the bag now. :top: Once you get the turbo kit installed, the first two things you will need to do are : 1. The tubing that goes from the Y-pipe into the turbo (effective catback), is change it to 3" 304 SS with a mandrel 90* bend going into the T4 turbine flange. 2. Cut off the stock 2-bolt flange and replace it with a 3" Vibrant Perfomance V-band flange, with a 3"x 6" (or 8") Vibrant Performance TURBO flex coupling. Trust me, the flex coupling and v-band flange will save you a TON of headache in the future. From cracked header primaries to exhaust leaks. Then, you will need to remove the other two flanges at the header to Y-pipe, and have 2.25" Vibrant V-band flanges welded in there. You will then be leak free every where, since those crush gaskets will end up failing you. :top:
le question as far as turbo's go isn't the sts kit kinda languid ? if 700hp is the goal wouldn't a garret be more ideal also as a front mount ? :dontknow:
There is some high horsepower vettes and maros running sts kits. Yeah we don't have the flow that they have but we are a big v6 displacement.... We will see how it goes but that is my goal to reach 700
once the turbo starts spooling, it will make the flow happen. You had better get all T-Bolt clamps, Clampco Brand
Will be doing that! First things first is I am gonna get this bottom end built. Skipping the sleeving for now and will do it further down the road and the custom head gasket will have to wait. So this truck will hopefully be running by the end of next month!
When you are ready sweet heart... come take a trip to TX. :-* The reason it works so well for them, is because they are just that, big displacement engines. LS motors (more notably) are a 5.7L or larger engine. They make enough low end torque, where they can get away with a rear mount setup without sacrificing from bad lag while running a larger turbo. They have A. More displacement and B. 2 more cylinders. On the 1gr, you will sacrifice SO much more then they did. The 1GR has neither of those benefits. Big for a v6? meh, Chevy has had a 4.3L v6 for a LONG time. When i think of a 'big' v6 by today's standards, that is a 'big' v6 motor. I know way back, I think it was Bentley that had an 8.0L v6?? (i think.... might be a bit off). The gains you see on this motor won't be any where near what you'd see on a vette or 'maro. Aiming for 700 at the wheel... lol... good luck (aka, won't happen with what you have listed thus far, but I challenge you to prove me wrong ;-) ... ). Can you do 700 through a 1GR? Sure. Gonna cost you big $$$. TRD dropped how many thousands of dollars into that RTR X-Runner? which was a 5.7L V8 on boost, and that still didn't hit 700whp, wasn't even close. And it wasn't much faster then some of the fastest 1gr XRs. Did it have some drawbacks? Sure prolly weighed a lot more. But they had real engineers working on that truck to make it happen. Of all the people I know, the one's that have the knowledge and connections to hit 700rwhp on the 1GR motor are one of 3 people. Torspd, Gadget, or David (using fagboa's money of course). But as I stated above... prove me wrong. That would be hella awesome if you did, and def worth tons of respect. Which valve springs are you going with? I know APR has put in a ton of time to make a 7k rpm work, have you talked to him about that? Last thing you want to do is dump all this time/money into this project and lose it because you got greedy over 500rpm. Keep it safe man, don't make the same mistakes that others made, and try to avoid being the first to make a 'new' mistake. And most importantly... keep the pics/vids coming!!! You started the build thread, the piranhas are hungry... make sure you feed 'em.
