Here's the two hardest wires to find when installing an in-dash navigation system in our trucks. I figured having these will help some people out in the future.

The VSS wire is located behind the glove box on the 2nd plug from the bottom of ECU. Its the purplewith white stripe wire as seen in the pic with the red wire tap already on it. :top:

The reverse is a little easier to locate. It's behind the drivers side lower kick panel. The red with white stripe wire :top:

Just a suggestion... these pics should be saved locally and reposted, just in case the TN guys decide to move a pic on their photobucket account. I've seen it happen before in previous writeups.

Can I tap into that reverse wire and be able to have a on/off switch for my reverse lights?

so if we don't tap these wires... will the navigation still work? or is this a must? The reason I ask is because I got an Eclipse Double Din with navi and it doesn't let me route or do anything to the navigation.... it only lets me see my location...

I believe for the eclipse to work properly you must hook up the VSS wire and either hook up or ground the parking brake wire. I grounded mine so the DVD functions would work without the brake on.
You shouldn't need the reverse wire unless you are installing a back up camera.

With my Exlipse Nav unit i used the wiring kit from the radio and used the factory plugs and never had to do any more than ground my unit to be able to watch movies while driving other than that it was basic plug n play.

Mine was the same as far as using all the factory plugs. But in addition to those I had to tap the VSS wire as well as ground the parking brake wire.

Ok... the reason I ask is because my Navigation works but I can't do anything with it.... I can't route it to go anywhere or do anything with it... it just tells me my current location and that's it..... Even with the parking brake on and not in gear...

Can't select them...

Did you tap the VSS wire from the unit into the VSS wire on the truck?

Did you ground the P-brake wire coming from the head unit?

No I haven't yet. I had asked that earlier to see if that is required....

quick question on top of all this... do I need to ground the parking brake for the parking brake itself? or the parking brake on the plug? Thanks.

The unit needs to think that the P-brake is engaged so ground the wire on the unit.

You also need to tap into VSS for the nav on that unit to work. I used to have the same unit

Thank you sir. :top:

Which wire would be the parking brake on this unit? Well I guess I should say the stock plug since these units are designed to take the toyota plugs... which was quite awesome... no wiring needed just plug and play... sad they went out of business..

Not completely plug N' play. You have to splice into the VVS wire (Page 1 of this thread) and you have to ground the P-brake wire on the unit. It's a green wire I believe

Eclipse didn't go out of business. They just don't make aftermarket car audio anymore.
