I'm trying to get everyone's opinion on what is the best alarm system for our trucks. I'm currently looking at some sort of viper alarm system but would like to get everyone's take on different systems used. Any and all info is helpful.

I have a viper 5901 with smartstart. I added in glass break and tilt sensor. I also hooked it up to my tonneau so it opens it as well.

Overall I am happy, remote range is good a little beat up after 2 years of use but battery still lasts about a month before needing a recharge.

Remote start is handy ya just have to get used to the shut down sequence and good to go.

I am sure there is a new model by now but there ya go. Best advice is don't bother trying to install yourself pay the money and save the headache

I have a compustar you should look into those the range and security stuff they offer, to me are the best, there was one time I'm ashamed of saying but at one point I lost my job and couldn't make payments when they came to repo it in the middle of the night my alarm went crazy and let me know as soon as the guy tried to hook it up while I was sleeping in the end tho my parents helped me which was a blessing and now I own my truck worst feeling ever :/

I have this same alarm with the smart start and I love it. Never had a problem with it. Compustar's are nice but I've heard of issues with them before.

And I was an installer for years and installed mine as well, and I can say, as hottaco said, def save yourself the headache and have a professional do it. A system that comprehensive is very difficult to install. Even more difficult to install CORRECTLY. Lol

If they're installing a remote start they have to install the hood pin and shouldn't be charging you extra for it. It should be included in the remote start install labor. Reason being if a mechanic or you or whoever is working under the hood and someone hits the remote start button and you lose a hand they're gonna be held liable if they didn't install the hood pin. Also some remote starts will freak out if you disconnect the battery and may try to start the vehicle as soon as the battery is connected again which is also very bad if your hand is in the wrong place. The hood switch keeps this from happening too

Kinda disappointed that all the x's don't come with an alarm standard seeing as they're the dopest dope you've ever smoked lol one thing I wish mine had was the unmistakable toyota lock beep instead of just the flashing lights.

Nope i guess it was an option when buying new, and I bought mine used. Guess previous owner didn't have any qualms with getting their stuff jacked.:stupid:

Depending on where you get everything, and what system you get, by the time you get the system, smart start module, any add on sensors/parts, immobilizer bypass module etc...you can be looking at well over 500 just for parts. My total including install on mine originally came up to around 800 dollars. Luckily I was the installer there and obviously didn't pay for install and got the parts discounted. I think I came out of pocket about 180 dollars on the whole thing. Lol

Oh and smartstart does cost a yearly fee. Not bad though it's like 50 or 70 bucks a year I think. It's been a while since I paid mine.
