since this is more of a general question based on the whole truck setup that i'm thinking about, and there isn't a general audio section, i'm posting it here.

i should be getting a nice chunk of change for my tax refund and i'd like to increase the quality of my audio. this is the setup i was thinking about:

Head Unit:
Eclipse AVN6600 link:http://www.eclipse-web.com/6600index.html

Speakers:
Pioneer TS-D691R (6x9) front link:http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069898_191756446,00.html
Pioneer TS-D161R (6.5") rear link:http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069898_191756456,00.html

Amplifier:
Alpine MRP-F550 link:http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KHOrdlLNzsI/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=500MRPF550

no subs for me, for now at least. please feel free to critique this setup and offer any replacement suggestions.

I am 100% AGAINST 6x9s.
A nice pair of 6.5's up front with a nice tweeter will do best. Get yourself an infinity reference component set or something like that you will be AMAZED by the sound.

The Infinity Ref 7541a and Kicker kx650.4 are both very decent amps. May I ask why just Pioneer speakers?

I am a fan of Pioneer Elite & Alpine HUs. I love CDT Audio components and JL amps are superior to most amps out there!

word up on the JL AMPS, it really depends on what ur budget is LUCKE, but PLEASE stay away from poweracoustic, that is a crappy ass brand, for beginners this is how you would gauge if amps are decent quality, you will generally pay about $1 per watt msrp, so if the retail price for a 500 watt amp is $500, its a decent amp, if its $200 bucks for a 1000 watt amp its a very crappy amp, but for a decent sq and spl set up, look into alpine hu's, comps: boston, polk, diamond, lower end rainbow, morel, and things of that nature, amps go with JL, jbl and alpine are ok, definitely do not go with infinity, they are top of the line of the •XR•XR•XR•XRty category, but really low end compared to the rest of the car audio spectrum

i have never heard the pioneer speakers u referred too, but i know the rest of pioneer is crappy, besides their shallow mount sub, i have heard good things about the speaker u wanted though, but i think for that price u can get a much better set up, like i said it all depends on ur budget, some comps cost 2000 a pair where some may cost 100

I would save and save some more to buy some JL amps! No amp puts out the continuous power like a JL amp. The output is THE SAME no matter what the input voltage (anywhere from 11 - 14.5V) or impedance - the benefits of this alone in an amp are significant.

Most amps are rated at 14.4V ONLY and a specific impedance (ohm) for their advertised RMS power output. This is very unrealistic even in the most ideal efficient setups since when the voltage drops so does the output. If the voltage drop is enough (12.5V area) the output of most amplifiers is cut IN HALF!!! Not to mention you are limited on how you wire certain speakers - not the case with JL amps.

As you listen (especially at idle or lower speeds) your car/trucks output voltage drops to much lower voltages when the volume is up and the charging system has a high load on it. Most amps are rated at 14.4V or a specific voltage & impedance so when the voltage drops so does the advertised output. This ultimately leads to muddy sounding speakers, harsh clipping, and over time speaker damage - speakers get damaged from to little power just as easy as to much.

The JL amps are also WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY underrated (unlike overrated as most amps are) - the power output is way above that of the advertised amount so be careful.

The JL circuitry allows THE SAME POWER OUTPUT in just about any charging system condition or common level of resistance (impedance - ohm). These amplifiers are truly a sound investment if not JUST for that reason. So with just that in mind save your change for some good amps!!!! You will always play with different speakers but spend the money here first.

I am a huge fan of the Pioneer Elite HUs just for the built in Bluetooth capability and the level of sound quality and tuning for the amount you can get them at - huge bang for the buck.

Check out this HU: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069882_291159553,00.html the sound quality is SLAMMING and the tunability/features for the cost ($450 on ebay) is unbeatable.

Check out these components: http://www.cdtaudio.com/car_audio.htm - AWESOME stuff, sounds better then most out there!!!! I am not a fan of rainbows personally for the money there is WAY better - they have become more of just a name IMO.

Check out this subwoofer: http://adireaudio.com/ - go to products and " The Brahma" - awesome stuff. That subwoofer can handle a lot of power (1600 Watts) and has a HUGE linear throw!!!!!! It is equal with a JL W7 in SQ and SPL if not better. I have seen single 12" Brahmas hit 138 db + in pretty small enclosures with 700 Watts of power... These babies MOVE SOME AIR and sound GREAT doing it. For $380.00 each and at a hefty 50 LBS a driver they are good sh!t.

Word, What he said. JL Amps are superior power delivery, bar none

I run a 300/4 and 500/1. I love them, had them for over 3 years not a single problem.
