Can my truck be called an X-Runner?

My truck started life as a 2014 Tacoma Pre-Runner TRD Sport Access Cab V6 automatic. Bought it for a daily driver in heavy traffic to work but decided I wanted a truck that Toyota didn't make... an Automatic V6 White X-Runner. So I guess I just have to build it. I bought a 2006 X-Runner for a donor truck. Had the frame checked out at a frame shop. Then striped the X-Runner frame down to be powder coated. Rebuilt the X-Runner rolling chassis. Then, did a rolling chassis swap with my Pre-Runner. The pulled off front fenders, bed side fenders, front bumper and rear bumper off the truck and bought all new X-Runner parts to complete the X-Runner look. So now I have a V6 Automatic Factory Super White Tacoma that looks like an X-Runner but have I done enough to be called an X-Runner? Please give any and all feedback.

It looks like a Pre-runner wearing a really nice X-runner hat...
JUST KIDDING - the truck looks great and after all the work you've done, you deserve to call it what you want! It really does look awesome - it would be easy to pass as an "X" - you even got the 5 spoke wheels on there!
CONGRATULATIONS on the build and thank you for sharing!

Lots of work and looks great! Id still call it an X-Runner clone or tribute because it wasnt born an X-Runner and the vin wont show its an X. But it doesnt change the fact that its an awesome truck

That was my main focus on doing this transformation... to make it be as original and stock as possible.. so it looks like it came from Toyota. I was really challenged on this when I was doing the factory X-Runner ground effects because of all the holes in the Pre-Runner front fenders and bed side fenders... so I had to buy all 4 new fenders. This was not in the plans. After, spending around $4k for all the new X-Runner ground effect parts and mounting. Really hurt the budget bad, adding another $4K for the 4 new fenders and having them painted. Plus, painting all the new factory ground effects. Not cheap but I really love the truck. Thank you guys for all the feedback.

Now hope and pray someone doesn’t hit you in a traffic accident (you said heavy traffi) and the truck is a total loss!
I had this happen to me once before. Hours & hours & hours down the drain …
Also note there is absolutely no way I would give up a manual trans.

Yeah, I am worried about that too because there are some crazy drivers out there. I did add some excess insurance to the truck but it will still break my heart with all this work I have put in the last 2 years. I love manuals too. I bought this truck just as a daily driver because my baby is an 05 STi but I was getting real tired of shifting in this Dallas, Texas heavy traffic and just really wanted a daily automatic. I couldn't find the truck I liked for a daily... so I built it.

Still active here? I follow the thread on TW.
Are you a new owner?
I am still active here and TW. I wouldn't classify myself as a new owner. I bought this truck 5 years ago when it started its life with me as a TRD Pre-Runner Sport. I have also owned two Gen 1 Tacomas before that.

O.k., nice detail on the build.

I bought the 08 awhile back as a low use utility trailer hauler. The wife likes driving it occasionaly.

Id like to find the body kit off a dead xrunner or at least piece it together. Any leads?

Thank you. As you can tell in the TW thread... I bought all my ground effects new rom the dealership... pretty expensive. If you look at some of my pictures on the TW thread... you can see the red donor 2006 x-runner when I first bought it. I pulled off all of those ground effects and used them for mocking up this truck. I still have them in the attic. I was keeping them as backups incase Toyota stopped selling these parts. It is no where complete... maybe 50% complete or so but I am also not completely sure if all the tabs are on the back of these ground effects since I have not laid eyes on them in about 3 years or so. Remember this donor truck when throw an accident... it slide off the road and went 4x4-ing and hit a tree. I don't want to give these parts away but won't mind selling them at a reasonable price. I am in the Dallas, Texas area if you want to meet up and look at them.

Heads up… there is quit a bit with adding the factory ground effects to a Tacoma that didn’t come with them. Just for example, the rear X-Runner bed side has 3 square holes in front of the wheel well and 3 square holes behind the wheel well. These are used to help hold the top part of the ground effects on to the bed side. I have drawn a red line above each hole below. The front X-Runner bumper also has extra holes in it from the factory also that help hold the ground effects on. Same thing with the rear X-Runner bumper. I chose to buy all of these brand new and have them painted when I added the factory X-Runner ground effects to my truck. I bet there is a way you can cut your existing bed side fenders, front bumper and rear bumper to match these holes but it would be a slow and daunting task.

Yes my truck is an original xrunner. So the fender holes etc. are there.
I'm in Ca. But my brother in kaw is in Dallas area. We looked into Taylor awhile back.

What do you have and want for the parts?

Thanks, Mike
