lets see. The diff takes 3.5 qts. and most people use redline 75w90. the tranny take 1.9 qts.

The owners manual comes in handy here but the rear dif is 90w gear oil with an additive. Redline is good but Amsoil has some nice stuff too.

did you use amsoil? I've been trying to find out what works. I want to use Amsoil but I don't want to be the first one to do it and then find out it'll screw up something on my X.

When I went to Jiffy lube the tech told me all locking rear diffs require synthetic oil with an addative. I did not change it yet I am going to wait until my next oil change. I figured even if it has synthetic already I will change it anyway. I want the good stuff
But I would bet that you are safe with either choice I personally am going to use Redline. But, the Amsoil would be my second choice.
I did the M/T fluid with Redline and there was a noticable difference.
the only way you screw up your XR is if you forgot to put oil in.
