I just got my x, it has about 600 miles on it and i know that it should be broken in before you start doing anything crazy but.... ive pushed it pretty hard a few times. Is this really that bad for it?

You should be good now. I went to 1000 miles before doing anything drastic. It's only bad if you break it in right after you drive it off the lot.

You should let the motor hit at least 1000 miles before pounding it. People have said they drove it hard off the lot, but usually it takes time for the motor to "break in" and its just gives you the piece of mind having a brand new truck

Break in IMO the truck needs to be driven the way you are going to drive it for life...
BUT
During the break in period I
Change the oil to full synthetic @ 500 miles
oil change at 1500 miles
oil change at 3000 miles
oil change at 5000 miles
Then every 4000 miles after that.

I built a lot of motors back in the day (non-toyota) and I am a FIRM believer in constant oil changes for the first few thousand miles....

Yep, change the oil at 5-600. Don't use full synth yet. Use regular dino. What you are doing is removing any possible particulates from the engine but most likely it still needs some break in. After the 2nd change, 1500-2000 you are pretty much done. After the 1st oil change, maybe up to 1000mi, you are pretty much good to go on how you drive it as well. Just don't beat on it during break in, run through 80% rpm, don't stay at full throttle for a legnth of time etc. You are constantly varying the load on the engine. Remember, you are also breaking in a trans, diff, brakes, chassis and the driver to a new truck.

Drive it like you own it, I've done it and have never had a problem, I have also noticed that they seem to run better after they get more miles on them being driven that way, probably in my head:dontknow:

Toyota runs the engines hard after they are built. They dont need to be broken in, run it hard. I just reccomend the oil changes like said above. Im a bit late on my 1st one (3,200mi).
