So I thought I'd spend my day test driving cars I didn't want, but always wanted to drive. My ploy was to say my truck ate too much gas and I wanted something better for long trips (granted this is true, but I wasn't gonna trade).
So first I hit up a Civic Si. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. My buddy has one, but won't let me drive it, so that's why I decided to try one out. I don't like the drive by wire system they have. At first I thought I couldn't shift till he told me to get on the gas as I let out the clutch... that seems inefficient to me.
Second stop was at Nissan dealer where I test drove a Maxima (possible family vehicle in a few years) and a Mini Cooper. The Maxima was nice, but it was automatic which was boring. It had the CVT tranny which was really strange. The power band never got up high then shifted. I kept it right around 3 grand till about 60 before letting off a little. Weird not to have a car that shifts. My buddy drove the Cooper. It was alright, but that 4 banger was having trouble with 3 of us in the car
Third, we hit up the 'yota dealer and my buddy drove a Tc. They are boring automatics. Don't like 'em.
Then we hit up the VW / Mazda dealer and I drove an RX-8 and my buddy drove a used 95ish Tacoma. He liked the Tacoma a lot, might actually buy it. Who wouldn't though
To be honest, I was really impressed with the RX-8. Good power throughout the band and the guy from the dealership told me to drive it how I drive my truck. Pretty cool dude. He drove it first, like a champ, and then we stopped before the interstate and he let me take over. Sucka moves. I think if I ever had to consider a worthless, non-practical car, I would go with an RX-8... but just for the better gas mileage and good acceleration/handling.
And so that was my day. Yes, this is boring. And no, I'm not trading in my truck. But I was bored
