the interview is next friday (4/6) and is for a Network Administrator (job posting on monster sounded more like a Jr. Admin position though)

personality wise, i'm fine. can the tech savvy people give me any advice about some things that they might want me to do/prove?

here is the job description
Fast-paced company in Tustin/Irvine area seeks a well-motivated individual to administer and manage a network of approximately
400 devices (PCs, servers, printers, etc.)

Applicants should exhibit solid skills in the following areas:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP desktop operating systems
- Windows 2000 and 2003 server operating systems
- Microsoft networking and TCP/IP
- Office 2000 and above
- PC hardware troubleshooting and maintenance
- Email systems management

Experience with Microsoft Exchange and SQL sever a benefit, although not required.
i'm really wanting this job because it would be a big step up in my career (both money and position wise).

I know that when my boss brings people around to see what I think of them, I can see what skills they have from the resume... I just make sure they have a sense of humor. that's a make or break deal right there

some of the best advice I've ever read is from 'How to Win Friends & Influence People'
that should be a book that is taught in school - it is seriously that good

i would even recommend reading it before your interview, if you can.
anyways, from the first part of it:

Barbara Anderson, who worked in a bank in New
York, desired to move to Phoenix, Arizona, because of
the health of her son. Using the principles she had
learned in our course, she wrote the following letter to
twelve banks in Phoenix:

Dear Sir:
My ten years of bank experience should be of interest to
a rapidly growing bank like yours.
In various capacities in bank operations with the Bankers
Trust Company in New York, leading to my present assignment
as Branch Manager, I have acquired skills in all
phases of banking including depositor relations, credits,
loans and administration.
I will be relocating to Phoenix in May and I am sure I can
contribute to your growth and profit. I will be in Phoenix
the week of April 3 and would appreciate the opportunity
to show you how I can help your bank meet its goals.
Sincerely,
Barbara L. Anderson

Do you think Mrs. Anderson received any response
from that letter? Eleven of the twelve banks invited her
to be interviewed, and she had a choice of which bank’s
offer to accept. Why? Mrs. Anderson did not state what
she wanted, but wrote in the letter how she could help
them, and focused on their wants, not her own.

I hire guys, and that's the attitude that i am looking for & i'll take it over skills & experience anyday. I can teach people how to do work, I can't teach them a good attitude

just my .02

another HUGE thing for me is willingness to admit you don't know it all, but a desire to learn
aka 'i haven't yet had a chance to familiarize myself with such&such, but i would look forward to the opportunity'
again, NOT 'oh such&such, yeah never touched it, but give me 2 days and i'll run the thing.'
personally, I hate brashness / coccyness

if you can do all that stuff, and you have a good personality then you should be fine. go in there confident not •XR•XR•XR•XRy or doubtful. good luck.

the interview went well... at least i thought. they didn't ask me any technical questions at all, which surprised me.

pretty much, they have one guy doing everything for ~200 end users, so while they're still functional, they're behind on their bigger projects (new SQL server, building and configuring 2 new servers, a DC and Exchange server to bring everything in house).

there were only 5 people interviewed, which means i've got a 20% chance of getting this job. the CIO told me that he would let me know via email or phone call as early as tomorrow (sat)... now the waiting game begins i'm not sure i'll be able to sleep tonight...
