ok well last night i decided to go ahead and install my nst short shift kit and once i got everything apart, took off the stock retainer and began looking at my kit i realized that the machined recesses in the blot holes seemed to be in the wrong places. on the transmission the raised bolt holes are on the right side toward the front of the tranny and left side toward the back of the tranny... on my kit the machined countersinks are on the front left and back right... has anyone else had this same problem? is it supposed to be like that? should i send my kit back to nst for an exchange? this is the first time ive dealt with nst and ive heard nothing but good things about the kit, good price, 30% shorter throws, high quality construction... but so far i havent experienced anything that would make me say anything good about it. if someone could please advise me on what to do next i would greatly appreciate it.

well i was hoping to be able to resolve the problem here so i didnt have to contact the company. i know there is someone from nst on the forum and i was hoping maybe he would post on here. also i dont want to send the product back ecause i want to have a chance to install it and see how i like it before i pass judgement. if anyone from nst reads this please post and know that you arent going to be dealing with an angry customer just someone who really wants to make this mod to his truck!!!

Mine was the same way bro. It was just easier for me to slap the spacer on the drill press and make my own notches....I will try to find my thread on this from a while back.

Yes, unfortunately the machined recesses are in the wrong locations, as you have noticed.

This however, will not cause any issues with the installation. Many have used washers or spacers and no one has had any problems thus far.

Go ahead with the installation and I'm sure you will be very happy with the final outcome. And as others have stated, feel free to give us a call and I would be more than happy to chat with you if you have any other questions.

Thanks again, good luck and have fun with all your projects!

I believe you can flip the plate and it will install.

When I added the spacer, I used the dowels from the spacer to the hat of the transmission. (instead of the main body of the transmission)

I choose to have the spacer come off with the hat.

Ok well if i use washers to compensate for the little nipples then i wont get the seal between the tranny and the plate. Is that still ok or do i have to have that sealed up? Thanks for all the feedback so far guys. Ill finish it up in the next few weeks because important having foot surgery tuesday and i have to admit myself to the hospital sunday afternoon.

It must be sealed so no moisture gets into the trans. U can't have the possiblity of outside getting inside. Not to mention u could smell the gear oil inside the cab and that shit smells like Feet and A$$HOLE mixed together:thumpdown:

Call Mike @ NST and see if there is anyway he can send you a modified one if you dont have the means to mod it yourself. He is a good dude and I am willing to bet he will work with you on this.

The bolts that you need are a M8 x 1.25 x 50mm lg. If you get a hex socket cap screw (instead of a hex head) it is a better fit. This is a bolt that uses a hex (allen) wrench. These will have a smaller head. The bolt that is on the lower left side is pretty tight to the drive line tunnel.

If you flip the plate over, it will fit. Let the dowel pins fit between the shifter hat and the plate.

you can pull those dowel pins out and just make sure to silicone your spacer to the trans. (PS dont do what I believe mclovin did and drop one of the pins in his tranny) Problem solved :top:

oh i can pull the dowels out? nice... how did you do that just grab em with some pliers or a pair of vise grips?... flipping it over will not work, trust me ive tried. sorry but the holes just arent big enough to fit the doels in there. what ill do is pull out the dowels flip the plate so i have a good flat-to-flat surface and silicone between them real good. thanks for the tip on the bols as well muchos gracias!:driver:
