I am still having problems getting my 2006 to go into 1st when I stop. It only happens every once and while. I had the both the clutch feel TSB and the Squeek TSB done at the same time. It feels exactly the same as before and I still have the same problems getting it to go into 1st and sometimes reverse. What should I do? I hate to have to take my URD short shifter out again to go back to the dealer.

If you have trouble getting into first gear, do this:

Push the stick into first gear as much as you can and then SLOWLY release the clutch until it slides into gear - then fully engage the clutch again. This allows the syncros to align (as I understand it). Works for me everytime! :top:

I will try that

I've never had trouble getting it into reverse but i do ocassionally get blocked outta 1st. I just throw it back in neutral, let the clutch out, push it back in, then it goes right into first.... so far its worked for me everytime.

But if you had both those tsb's done and your clutch feels the same to you, i think there might be a problem becuause after i had the tsb's done, mine felt waaay different.

Well I know it was done because I can see the new lever and I found an old bushing under my seat.

You probabley need to take the short shifter back out and make sure everything is still tight, I messed up and didnt get my set screws tightened down all the way and within a couple of weeks i started having the same problems. Took it all back apart and there was play on the extension piece. Put it back on and made sure there was no play at all on the extension and it was a 100% difference

I am confident that everything was tight. I was worrying about overtightening the set srews when putting it back in. guess it would not hurt to take a look and make sure.

Yeah.. i would atleast start there. I thought mine was tight too... also had a fear of stripping the set screws.. i think what happened to mine was the two shell pieces had rotated and then the ends of my set screws fell down in the gap where the two meets and gave it enough play to move around. Let us know what you come up with and good luck :top:

I dont think Ive ever had a M/T that didnt, on ocassion, block me out of 1st. I normally just slip it into 2nd and then getting into 1st is no prob.
Pretty close to Spyder327's remedy.

Same ^

All of the cars I've had have been like that, and I've had Japaneese, Euro, Domestic etc etc.

I changed the fluid in my tranny of my X and it felt like a totally diffrent tranny, gear changing, engauging, just all togeter felt much better.

That hard getting into first and reverse has always been like that with Toyota's on there manual trans, I've just do like everybody else and go into another gear to line up the synchro's and then it will go right in

I've had my S/S for two weeks now
and I have the same problem.

I have noticed though that once it
is in first, I can go from first to nuetral
very easy as long as I don't re-clutch.

Also I gotta slap it into reverse with a
little conviction.

But come to think of it every M/T
I've owned did the same thing with first.

A lot of great cars had their quirks
you had to know how to drive them.
I guess XR's are that way too.

I'm gonna do the fluid change though:top:

I agree with who ever said that they've had the first gear problem with any other manual car. I think its just a normal occurance. It's happened to me a plenty. STIs, EVOs, many of the manual BMWs. I haven't had much trouble on my XRunner, but its still new.

I changed the fluid in M/T box with Redline synthetic and I can tell a difference in smoothness. Going into first is not a problem anymore at all. I kinda just keep trying different things until I found the groove or rhythm for my M/T
