As referenced in this thread:

http://www.xr-underground.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=12155

Here is a PDF provided by a dealer regarding the paint chipping certain production year Tacomas. Looks like it's time to go visit the dealer and get all these chipped fender flares taken care of now that we have some fire power and a legitimate acknowledgment of the problem. Page 16 displays adding 3M protection to the fender flare.

Just make sure your truck is in the correction production period:
Sept 14, 2004 - Feb 28, 2005
March 1, 2005 - August 26, 2005

Please read the chart on page 3 or 4 where it says not applied to Xrunner?

Please read the chart on page 3 or 4 where it says not applied to Xrunner?

it doesn't list the X-Runner in the model list, but that would be easily arguable I think since the X-Runner and Pre-Runner share the same body. Why would the X-Runner not be eligible for this if it's the same body and a truck that is eligible?

This appears to include every truck but the XRunner. Am I missing something?

This is great. but my question is i didnt see where the warrenty plays in to this. Is there a certain mileage or warrenty time tied into this or can i just show up at the dealer with this in hand like i meet all this criteria and want my stuff painted up.:dontknow:

This has nothing to do with warranty. But page 6 seems to say nothing is applicable to the X.

I don't really know. I'm fairly certain that the dealer would give you the run around but we may be able to push this up the ladder. This is confirmation that Toyota acknowledges there is a paint chipping problem on these trucks. If we try to get them repaired, and they refuse --- I don't want to jump the gun --- but perhaps even threatened a class action suit or something to that affect. I like to give people (and companies) the benefit of the doubt though and would like to think that with this documentation, regardless of whether it specifies the particular X-Runner model or not, that we could get some action on this problem that's been prevalent for the past 4 years.

This has nothing to do with warranty. But page 6 seems to say nothing is applicable to the X.

You are right - but as I said - I think that would be a tough argument to justify (on the part of Toyota) since the X-Runner is the exact same truck as the Pre-Runner with the exception of suspension modifications, transmission, and body molding.

This is not a TSB. Just directions on what to do for repainting. Emailed this PDF to my dealers body shop a week or so ago. They said it is not a TSB, but if my truck is bad enough they will warranty it anyways

They will easily says it doesn't apply to the truck due to the sport stance and fender flares. Someone go in and report back:) Im ready for them to fix mine lol.

Right. That was never stated on this thread b/c it is not accurate. As I have said, this is confirmation that Toyota acknowledges there is a paint chipping problem on these trucks. Now we have to find a way to wield this knowledge into a fix for all the flares that are chipping.

I may have to contact Toyota Corporate and see what I can find out.

They will easily says it doesn't apply to the truck due to the sport stance and fender flares.

How can they say that it's b/c of the sport stance when a truck that is 2-4 inches higher (the Pre-Runner) is experiencing the same chipping problem?

I'm just sayin... I think we have some firepower here. Now, to find a logical and effective way of using it to get Toyota to fix this problem for everyone.

I would suggest getting pictures of the damage from other trucks an say "hey its your problem because ALL the x-runners do this"

Maybe pictures and some talking might get the job done
