Tire Pressure Sensors?

OK I am getn ready to order my wheels and I was wantn to know who all has aftermarket wheel and if they installed the tire pressure sensors in the new wheels? I dont want to take them out of my stock wheels and install them in my new wheels cause I will probably switch back to the stockers in the winter(if i drive it in the winter that is...) And I called the dealership to see how much 4 of them sensors would be and they told me they were 117.00 each!!! so I dont know what to do... What happens if you dont install them? The dashlight comes on and thats it???

That would be hard to do because the tire sensors all have different ID numbers and everytime you swap wheels you would have to have them reprogramed into the tire monitor ECU ,also you would have to write down all the ID numbers before the tire are installed on the new wheels and keep up with the IDs, and the only way to program them is at the dealership. if you don't install them you will just have a tire light on.

Ive never heard anything like that?:hmmmm2: They told me that all of the sensors in all my wheels are the same... and when one of the tires is low it tells you by the light coming on... It does not tell you which one is low... The ECU just lets you know you have a low tire...

When you have a problem with tire pressure sensors, you can have 4 to 5 on a vehicle (depending on what model) you have to use the scan tool and slowly let out the tire pressure and look at the scan tool to see which tire it is on the scan tool buy the drop in pressure, they read tire 1 tire 2 and so on, the original sensors you have on your truck now are already programed with there ID numbers and that will never change unless you change a sensor or sensors themselves in that case you would have to reprogram them, these sensors detect tire pressure and temperature and send it to the tire monitor ECU ( Yes, the actual sensors are the same BUT every sensor has a different ID number) Also you can check out a thread I replyed to under aftermarket wheels and tire "my tire pressure gauge is going loco" post #15

i did not install them on my wheels. they would not work because of the wheel design. the sensors in the steel wheels for a base model tacoma are different then the ones on the x. on a side note i will sell you my factory ones.

I think someone should figure out how to just disable the sensors. Then you could enable them or disable them at your will. Just a thought...:dontknow:

i did not install them on my wheels. they would not work because of the wheel design. the sensors in the steel wheels for a base model tacoma are different then the ones on the x. on a side note i will sell you my factory ones.

When Rob did the white LED gauge mod, He removed my tire pressure sensor LED...That thing used to drive me crazy!
