Sorry for all the questions but i need help badly.
I think i messed up on the SS installation.
Please help me.

1. Is there suppose to be a gap between the spacer and the shifter assembly due to the dowel pins?

2. What happens if i damaged the bushing? (I pried it off with a small flat head screwdriver and there are some "dents" on the inside and outside and its not completely round due to them.)

3. Do you sell or know where to buy bushings for a 2008 Tacoma 4.0L V6?

4. Are the throws suppose to be 100% smooth right after the install or is it gonna get better over time?

5. While shifting, are there suppose to be "clunks" between the shifts? Is this problem caused by the damaged bushing?

6. Is it possible to remove the allen screws that are thread locked and staked? If so, how?

Please please please help me!!! I feel like i messed everything up.

the pins should have come out of the top of the tranny and gone on top of the spacer i believe. if i am remembering corectly. and the bushing being messed up may cause it to feel a bit chunky. i did notice that mine does feel a little more solid than the stock throw, but not chunky.

1. Is there suppose to be a gap between the spacer and the shifter assembly due to the dowel pins?

Nope the pins should fit in the factory holes in the case

2. What happens if i damaged the bushing? (I pried it off with a small flat head screwdriver and there are some "dents" on the inside and outside and its not completely round due to them.)

I would think that as long as there are not major issues with the ball you should be ok.

3. Do you sell or know where to buy bushings for a 2008 Tacoma 4.0L V6?

Toyota Dealer

4. Are the throws suppose to be 100% smooth right after the install or is it gonna get better over time?

Mine never was smooth no matter what I did and what fluid i used and I tried many

5. While shifting, are there suppose to be "clunks" between the shifts? Is this problem caused by the damaged bushing?

Again not smooth transmission

6. Is it possible to remove the allen screws that are thread locked and staked? If so, how?

I could not get mine off. Had to drill it but I over tightened them i think. I had to drill them out but I would say dont over tighten them and use removable lock tight your fine. if you cant get them out then you have to drill them out

Please please please help me!!! I feel like i messed everything up.

Good luck dude! Call Gadget at URD he will give you all the info you need:top:

probably the dealer. you might be able to try a shucks or carquest or something. they might have generic replacements. if you take the bushing out they could probably match it up. good luck bro.

No.

The dowels are a close fit. if you make them "out of round" they will probably cause the gap in question 1.

3. Do you sell or know where to buy bushings for a 2008 Tacoma 4.0L V6?

Dealer.

4. Are the throws suppose to be 100% smooth right after the install or is it gonna get better over time?

5. While shifting, are there suppose to be "clunks" between the shifts? Is this problem caused by the damaged bushing?

I bet you are shifting the truck at rest. When it is moving and oil is circulating it will be a little smoother. I also recommend a good synthetic oil. It will make this a lot smoother.

6. Is it possible to remove the allen screws that are thread locked and staked? If so, how?

Yes, but you might damage the screws. be sure to have a spare set when you do this. I have used an allen wrench and have removed them in the past.

Replace the dowels pins and you should be good to go. It will also work with the dowel pins removed. If you remove the dowels, be sure you add silicone in this area.

The dowels wouldn't fit in the spacer provided by URD. The holes in the spacer were too small. What should i do? If i remove the dowels completely do i need to add silicone in the enlarged holes?

It was a pleasure speaking to you on the Tech Support line.

Page 13 step 6 describes the fitment of the dowel pins and the spacer plate.

The dowel pins, both of them, should come out with the
shifter assembly. Occasionally, one or both of them will
stick in the transmission. If this happens you will need to
pull the dowel pin(s) out of the transmission with a needle
nose pliers and insert it into the enlarged holes in the URD
spacer plate.

When the spacer plate is installed on the transmission, both
of the enlarged holes should be facing upward with one of
them in the front right position. This will allow the dowel pins
to line up with the shifter assembly when it is installed onto
the spacer plate.

thanks gadget
Im just going to remove both the dowel pins and replace the damaged bushing.
Hopefully that will fix everything.
Ill update you guys.

I just came back from Toyota and ordered a bushing. They said it will come in a couple of days. Hopefully I get it by saturday so i can do the re-installation. I'll let you guys know what happens after the dowel pins are removed and the bushing is replaced. Im hoping it will feel a lot better than how it feels right now.

UPDATE!!!
I drove my truck to work 2day and i noticed a couple things about the short shifter.
The "notchiness" or the "clunks" seemed to decrease. I couldn't feel it as much as i did the first time.
Also, its a little harder to shift than the stock shifter. (all gears not just reverse)
Are these normal for the short shifter?

Sorry I'm late at posting. I missed this thread somehow. Heres a thread I started months ago. Probably another known failure item that Toyota will not own up to: http://www.xr-underground.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=31360&highlight=bushing
