Drag Racing Helmets

Motorcycle helmets are like motor oil... you can pay as little or as much as you want. But you generally get what you pay for. I got my Shoei RF-1000 for $150 on clearance (normally a $450 item) from a motorcycle store in Peoria, IL. I know it saved my life when I hit the gravel patch and went head first into the ditch.

Oh so true.. I was able to find mine threw a guy that owned a shop that was going under, everything that didn't sell on clearance got moved into storage. So got a killer deal on it.

I got an old helmet you can have for free...... Never been dropped but it's a little big for me,,, but it's free..... If you find one that you like the design of my friend can airbrush anything you want on it.......

I know this is an old thread, but I figures I would bump it to see what everyone is running for helmets now. I think its time I get one for the track. They haven't hassled me about it yet, but I want to have one ready if they decide to make me wear one. I was looking at open face helmets mostly because I wear glasses and full faced models can be a pain to get on and off with glasses and have fogging problems. Anybody have any recommendations or good deals on a helmet for the strip. :driver:

the only thing i know about is motorcycle grade helmets and they are going to be for ventilation and safety. i personally have worn shoei x-11's for about 5 years now and love em. i have also had suomy(crap) hjc (cheap crap) and a arai(great helmet but didnt fit my head shape properly).

Getting a Helmet you do not know the history of can be risky.

If the Helmet has ever received an impact or been dropped, it's structure has been weakened, even if there is no visible damage.

iirc you can send your possibly damaged helmet back to the manufacture(shoei,arai) and they will do a sonogram type of test and let you know if its hurt or not
