just took a drive with my new escort passport 8500 x50 black 2011 model radar detector and wow! i had a cheap cobra before and the new escort i got has like 3 or 4 times the range! saved my ass already....at the bottom of a steep hill radar went off and a minute later a cop came over the top of the hill. probably caught him a good 2 kms early. very impressed!

I love mine. When I drive to Tampa on the HWY, I pick them up a good 4 miles away

awesome! i drive mostly winding hwys with lots of hills and i notice very good response from around corners or from over hills which is very important for me. i'm also in a situation where if i get another ticket my license will be taken away for 6 months. haha smartest buy i've ever done

haha ya well in bc canada we have to get a learners license for a year and than a new drivers license for 2 years before we get our class 5 license. while on my new drivers license i picked up 2 minor speeding tickets and had my license stripped for 3 month and a $500 fine. also had to restart my 2 years waiting period befor i can get my class 5. next ticket is 6 months and probably a bigger fine. so i'm screwed if i get another ticket of any kind

The escort 8500 is a great straight line radar detector but has some severe limitations with off axis radar, radar from behind, instant on, and offers pretty much no protection at all from laser. One of these scenarios could land you a ticket real fast with little or no warning.

Are you sure your last ticket was received due to radar? Are you sure it wasn't laser? Instant On? Or just visual speed estimation by an officer?

If your on the verge of losing your license I wouldn't trust it 100%.

Its probably a wise idea to slow down quite a bit until your 'probation' period is over.

Part of getting away with speeding is understanding what your equipment can and can not do.

i try setting my cruise control as often as i can no more than 10 km/h over the speed limit. i have a tendency to really step on it coming on to hwys and rip around corners every once and a while though

Nice choice. Got to have one because I can't do the speed limit, either. Never could and never will.
