My wheel fell off and as I was pulling over and then it rolled past me...

Needed a new drum shoes and the hardware. Will eventually buy new whells to replace the 20s that I nevef liked.

Was able to pull new studs through using a nut and some washers. Very lucky that my dad is good with this kind of stuff.

Will be bringing my torque wrench with me when I swap wheels for rally cross from now on.

^^ let them laugh! I do it too! Under torque can lead to this, over torque can warp rotors. Something I learned the other day that I didn't know was to always put your "click style" torque wrench on zero after every use. Keeps it accurate. I had a bad habit of keeping the wrench on the ft lb spec for the lugs. Not sure if it applies to digital.

Nah I had taken the body kit off and trimmed the fenders. Really the worst part is that I cant sell those wheels now.

I'm also curious if you noticed anything before hand. A year ago 4 of the 5 studs broke off one wheel on my jeep and the only lugnut still holding it on was half off. It made a definite loud clunking sound as well as a pretty serious vibration through the vehicle when it happened.

I definitely noticed the vibration and stopped to check for a flat. The tires were fine. My wheels have caps that cover the lugs, so I did not notice anything wrong:frown: I started driving again thinking that mabye I was over reacting, and it got worse. I ended up pulling over on an off ramp. I think that the curb between the road is what finally caused the wheel to cone off. When I got out of the truck the drum was sitting there smoking.

If I had took a little more time to check things out I probably would have realized what was happening. It was strange that it would only vibrate while coasting.

It could have been a whole lot worse.

I had a lug nut come off my truck on my way home from work 1 night and it busted a glass door on a business . I didn't stop because at the time I didn't know what had happened. it was about 2 days later I noticed the lug missing and pieced it together

I would advise that you change the rest of your wheel studs ( the other 3 wheels) in the near future.

I had a buddy that had his truck lifted (f150) and the shop used an impact gun to tighten the lugs... He was driving down the road and his drivers front lugs all snapped off and his wheel passed him almost caused his truck to roll....

I never use an impact to tighten lugs I always use a t-wrench

Good thing you are not hurt

Wow, good thing it wasn't one of your front wheels. Glad to hear everything is all good!
