Toyota uses terrible bolts - hitch install

Today i was installing a hitch that i got from etrailer. It is a pretty nice design. However, today I realized that toyota uses terrible bolts in the rear frame. The bolts are slightly tapered with gaps in the threads back there. With that, your odds of crossthreading a bolt is real high. Matter of fact I really messed one up good. Its hard to even get them threaded in to start.

Ive worked on my acura for years and never had corssthreading issues like i did on this newer truck.

Guess Im gonna check out napa for a new bolt or two.

Anyone else feel the same way?:argh:

yea they can get sideways if you dont hold the bumper perfectly straight/level

I would know, I take it off to race and I stripped one of them....but it actually rethreaded itself and works fine:laugh:

i think is is just the starter section on the bolt. i wish it was threaded completely. what were the engineers thinking?
