Okay, I have finally decided on trans oil & rear gear oil for my XR! Going Red Line products all the way.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Trans holds 3.8 Pints = 1.9 Quarts
Rear dif holds 7.4 Pints = 3.7 Quarts
Right?

I just ordered some fluid from my Amsoil rep and he said the following "Your 6-speed manual transmission holds 3.8pints (2 qts) and you can use either a GL-4 or a GL-5 in it. I would recommend AMSOIL GL-4 75w-90 Manual TransmissionOil (MTG). The rear differential Capacity is 5.9pints (3 qts) and I would recommend AMSOIL Severe Gear 75w-90"

Who is right? I guess it's time to crack open the owner's manual and see.

I myself just made the leap and ordered gear/trans fluid as well. I was told 2 quarts for trans and 3 for diff, though. I ordered 3 GL-4 for the trans, and 4 GL-5 for the rear end.

I got the 7.4 number off an Amsoil website. I think 3 quarts is correct.

Why does our owners manual say to use 75w-90 in rear diff, but on redline website when I looked up what they recomend for 2011 X they say 75w-85 (GL-5).... does that make any difference?

Capacity if the rear is less than it will hold. That's the controversy, do you pour in the specified amount or do you fill till it runs out the side hole? It's like the chicken & egg thing...

I've always filled till it runs out the fill hole. I haven't done this on my X just yet, but I've rear end swapped a 67 mustang, 88 4Runner, 92 4Runner, 98 Tacoma, and a 94 Landcruiser and they've had no issues.
